They were, but rightfully so. The French swimmers are arrogant, and they had a great chance to win. Now hopefully Phelps sweeps.
The announcer was just doing his job, playing up the drama of the race. He knows we had just as good of a shot at winning it.
I DVR'ed it and can't wait to get home today and watch! I have to admit I am a summer Olympics junkie! Have been since I can remember. I love men/womens gymnastics, swimming, diving, and track and field. Speaking of, they were making a pretty big deal on local news around here about the National Anthom, when Phelps won that first gold medal this weekend, getting cut short. I watched this ceremony but was cooking breakfast at the same time and missed the fact that it was cut short. How bad was it?
his 2nd leg was slow. 21.7 on first leg was flying, 25.0 on second leg, notsomuch. announcer didnt mention it, but bernard made a huge mistake by swimming on the side of the lane next to lezak. shouldve been on the opposite side to prevent drafting. one of the best things ive ever seen in the olympics.
Did anyone catch the Men's 100m Butterfly? It was an even more incredible race than the 4x100 relay. Before the race, the eventual silver medal winner Milorad Cavic said it would be good for the sport if Phelps lost and that he wanted to be the one to crush his 8 gold medal dreams. Cavic led most of the race and in live action, it looked like he'd won. But each lane of the pool has a touch pad on the wall at the end of the race that records the times and Phelps ended up winning by .01 seconds!! Here's the photographic proof that Phelps (on the left) rightfully took the gold. And in true sportsman-like spirit that the Olympic games were founded on, sore loser Cavic filed a futile protest. Check out this LINK for frame by frame pictures of the finish and it will give you a clearer understanding of how incredible this win was.
To be fair, it was his coach(now at Michigan) that filed the protest but upon seeing the evidence, accepted defeat. .01 is a bit difficult to see with the naked eye, so I don't blame the question. But there are still funny pics popping up on the internet in regards to it.
Yeah, you're right, it was his coach. Still, a protest just reeks of poor sportsmanship, but I didn't spend years training for the race, so what do I know of the frustration he felt? Not sure what you mean by 'funny pictures' though. The one you posted still seems to show Phelps touching first or at the very least, both of them touching simultaneously. Regardless, Phelps time was recorded first and the rest is Olympic history.
when they showed phelps mother after the race, i honestly thought the woman was gonna have a heart attack.
