nice, solid win at a great time, but dont make too much of it. usc is on par with lsu and should have lost on the road. looks like 8-8 will win the west.
I thought all the love for Arky was a bit premature, but then they go and beat Texas and OU, and I kinda thought maybe they'd be legit. But now they lose to Ole Miss, man who knows? I always felt that State was going to be tough in the west this season. They always are. Anyhow, it was a good win. Even though USCe shot terribly from the FT line, we were pretty decent defensively. Scoring 80+ pts in the SEC isn't something to scoff at either.
I'm bummed I missed quick change. Saw them @ a Utah game (in Salt Lake... long story) a few years ago and then again at LSU. Oh, yeah, bummed I missed the game too.
i've seen them three times now, and i'm bummed i missed them again. :bncry: in fact, my comment whenever i see another halftime show act is....."they're no quick change."
Funny, I guess you could say that about most of the SEC then? Bottomline is a win is a win, and this was a convincing win. Largely b/c our inside guys played well against an admittedly smaller team, and our perimeter guys stepped up and guarded their guards. At this stage you've just got to win. There are subtle subtexts to our ability to compete in the SEC as well, in addition to Tasmin Mitchell's line. Terry Martin stepped up and played 21 minutes. Q Thornton is slowly developing under Trent's watch to the type of player we expected last year... solid contributions from him. Bo Spencer playing good d and slowing down their PG. Subtle improvements that will be key as we get further down the road.
Not to beat a dead horse, but just think how HUGE a win against A&M or Utah would have been! However, I think those games (especially Utah) will come in handy. GREAT experience. I just hope we can hang with Xavier. That'll be a good game, I think.
im certainly not advocating taking a SEC win for granted. but yes, especially this year, you could say that most sec teams are equal and should not win on the road i think the sec teams can be categorized like this-- 1. uk and tenn 2. everyone else 3. bama and usc sure there are signs that players are improving/getting it, etc. the downside is that two of the players you mentioned are seniors. i thought it unlikely for lsu to have a great season because of post problems. but the best chance was for cjohnson and temple to really improve. there has been no sign of that. this team needs one more scorer and one more solid post defender to have a shot a being good. its a shame because there are several well rounded players---tas, gt, mt, bo. when lsu plays a good team though, they will focus on shutting down mt and tas will typically have a tough matchup that wont allow him to get 20/10. i agree that "Subtle improvements that will be key as we get further down the road." that is why as a fan im willing to sacrifice some quality for PT for the younguns. im hoping warren, graham, and bass get more and more PT/game as the season progresses.
I concur, although the Chinese acrobat who rides the 7 foot unicycle and kicks bowls on her head was pretty good.
