Totally agree, it's very difficult to compete for championships without them, especially now that we're dealing with Calipari every year. What irked me about Brady toward the end of his tenure was that he'd pursue them exclusively, with little thought to how he would use role players off the bench, or really develop any kind of position depth, particularly at guard.
Well, his real problem is that he almost solely went after the "one and done" post/interior players while rarely making an effort to go for "one and done" guards. Like it or not, those players are what college basketball is all about unfortunately. I do agree with needing to recruit solid role players.
I didn't know you had a problem with me, particularly in a thread that doesn't have the first thing to do with Nick Saban. Let me guess: I'm one of those guys who needs to just shut up and become a Bama fan, right? That must be it, because apparently you want me to ignore the fact that he is a very good football coach, and develop total amnesia between 2000-2005. But hey, it's cool, if you have so much faith in the unassailable, too-perfect-for-criticism golden god that is Les Miles, then it shouldn't bother you what people think about Saban anyway.
Call it JohnLSU syndrome, it's been very contagious lately in case you didn't notice. For future reference, sarcasm doesn't always come across well in writing. And the UAB joke was HI-LARIOUS. Take it from someone who was there to see it unfold in all its glory.
I see you criticizing TJ a lot and longing for Brady. Didn't TJ do something pretty significant in his first season? Doesn't he have a substantial class coming in next year? Is it really his fault that players are injured and that the bench isn't deep? I think you're really jumping the gun on TJ. And I'm a pessimist in general.
As much as I hated Brady's personality, his teams were always defensively sound and competitive. It was rare to see one of his teams have a terrible season. His time had come though because he lost the fans. Unfortunately personality wise TJ isn't much better, if at all. His only hope is to win and win soon. Because his personality is not going to gain any of the lost fans back. For me, I love going to LSU basketball games. It's so discouraging to see the lack of support. I suppose I am just not at all optimistic anymore. :/
I like TJs 'tude much better than Brady's. We were pretty strong on D with Brady, but we were taken to the woodshed on a regular basis when we made the postseason. And our O under Brady was pretty unimpressive.
