Ben Vgood is as overhyped as Tyrone Malone (well not quite but on the boards he is coming close to it). This is a kid that wasn't offered by OSU, UO, WSU, UW, Gonzaga, UCLA, Stanford, etc etc etc. As WestCoast said above he was a disappointment in the Elite 8 in Oregon. This kid will make Tac look like a 1st Team All American. He will be a bench player at LSU at best and at worst he will be our first transfer from the incoming crop.
yes, and i disagree with the previous poster. part of the reason he wasnt offered by big programs was that he signed with lsu early. he said he didnt want to worry about it during his senior year. we'll never know if he would have been offered. he is not as fast as tack, but that's the only downside i see. he is probably not as quick as tack either but thats tricky to tell against high school competition. ben is consistent. he has a better shot, not the jerky line drive that tack puts up. makes better decisions, consistently. he has a bit more size too. bottom line is he is more consistent. if tack doesnt improve his consistency, ben may get a lot of pt.
Chad McKenzie Changing the topic from Ben V., according to Dandy Don's website, because the Tigers now have two open schollies (for Regis' and Ross' spots), they might consider signing someone else this spring. A name thrown out there was a JUCO guy named Chad McKenzie, who was quoted as a wing forward. Not sure we need another guy like that, but does anyone have any scoop on this? I would have hoped that Brady and staff would be looking to sign a JUCO GUARD that might have been able to help on the perimeter next year, but who knows if anyone's available....
Read an article last week about signing day and the LSU fax being quiet since they had everyone sign in the early period. There may not be any players available that LSU are interested in signing right now, Brady may want to wait and use the open schollies in Nov. for the next class.
i saw in a post on the tiger den that Magunm Rolle moved ahead of tasmin Mitchell here is the link http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=768
I actually like this signing for Brady. For once he didn't just use a recruiting magazine to evaluate the talent. Now it will be another question as to if the kid pans out, but it's a breath of fresh air to see him signing someone that "fits" what this team is lacking, which is a shooting guard with size. And it's a breath of fresh air to see he and his coaches spot a guy they liked, for whatever reason, and then go after the kid, regardless of rankings or public opinion. It's scares me a little bit that we even thought he was a junior, but this is one of those 5-year players that should contribute in about 3 years after a redshirt and freshman year of learning and developing....assuming he sticks around.
Brady is a recruiting dervish. He beat out Colgate for Vgood and a junior college for Farrer. These two were signed to keep CT23rd company on the bench.
