Best team in the LEAGUE, not just the West Wow I would have to agree with that statement at this point "LSU shot 44.3 percent (30 of 68) while holding the Bulldogs, one of the nation's best three-point shooting teams, to only 31.5 percent from the field (24 of 76). Half of Mississippi State's field goals came from three-point range (12 of 31)." Defense wins championships.
id like to know how many of the missed shots were contested. i assume they were, but i didnt hear hawthorne say it. i do remember tas (and martin?) blocking a 3 late.
for some reason lsusports.net doesnt have the postgame quotes. here it is from msu site. http://www.mstateathletics.com/fls/16800/pdf/mbk/mbk_postgame_021109.pdf?&SPSID=90866&SPID=10994&DB_OEM_ID=16800
i love quoting my own posts stansbury- "We knew they did a great job with three-point defense and we thought our only advantage would be in the post. We did not get many perimeter looks. Our advantage was the post and we went there over and over again and we were scoring. " http://www.mstateathletics.com/fls/16800/pdf/mbk/mbk_postgame_021109.pdf?&SPSID=90866&SPID=10994&DB_OEM_ID=16800
here was the strategy-- ctj- (On having to make changes once people began to foul out) “What we were defi nitely not going to do was to help in the post and let their perimeter players get going.”
Who's got info on Bo Spencer's ankle? The Tigers can't make the run we hope they make in March if Bo's out. And some ankles take forever to heal. :tigereye:
LSU got MSU's video footage and dubbed Hawthorne in for the call. The video is free from the Geaux Zone and is around 73 minutes with most of the pauses in the game edited out: http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=3668251 If you prefer to use Windows Media Player, use the url below: mms://www.xosn.com.edgestreams.net/video90/ZZBTALXMVBVFHAW.20090212165434.wmv :geaux:
Hey, I hate to harp on you gumbo', but aren't you one of the folks on here that were questioning Tas' ability to step it up and become a major force on this team? Particularly, his scoring? I seem to remember comments from folks saying that they didn't believe Tas' could evolve in to a 18+ ppg kind of player. If last night is any indication, I think that to be false. Tas' at a solid 6'7" 230 lb can be an effective inside out guy. To put up 41 points and foul out Varnado, I'd be surprised if Tas' isn't SEC POW next week (again). I think (and hope) that he comes back next year to be a major college player getting good national pub and be the go to guy on this team. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige BE A PART OF THE TRENT JOHNSON ERA.
taz has been my favorite player since he got here. Im glad hes finally stepping into the lead role. his play is very dependent on his confidence and CTJ's reassurance and trust seems to have been just what he needed. something brady clearly had a hard time doing.
