I see we have one recruit from Memphis. I wonder why they don't recruit this area more?

It's only 5 hours to BR from North Miss. If USC and others are interested in North MISS HS players, shouldn't LSU take a look at a four star linebacker like Chris Strong?

Other than the pounding on the field took from us last year and the dismal W-L record this year, has anyone noticed how well Coach O is recruiting? Did anyone notice how they dahm near beat us? It wasn't a fluke, they did well against Auburn and Bama too. i'd hate to think what might have happened to our record had they a decent QB. We might not be talking about the Rose bowl that is for sure.

I sure hate to see any decent players go to :eek:lefire:

    that just makes me :angryfire

LSU's main out of state recruiting is limited to East Texas, South Mississippi, extreme south Alabama and the eastern Florida panhandle--Places within the media influence of Louisiana TV/radio stations and newspapers.

The main out-of-state influences in North Mississippi are from Tennessee, not Louisiana. We occasionally get a player from north of Jackson, but not often.

LSu gets a good bit of coverage up here. Remember they think LSu is their arch rival.
Ole Miss recruits into North LA. and of course the Memphis and North Miss area.

According to the High school polls and Rivals HS recruit ratings it would be smart NOT to ignore these areas. that is all.

i lived there for 6 yrs. in addition to UT's big influence there, dont forget Bama---Albert Means. Arkansas recruits there too.

im sure it all has to do with connections. does the current staff have anyone with connections there?

Larry Porter played at the University of Memphis. Had a great freshman year, and good years after that. He then coached at a high school in Memphis and later at Ark State for a few years. Ark State regularly gets 2d tier guys out of memphis. He should have some contacts here.

There was a fairly high ranked LB recruit in Memphis this year (Chris Walker, CBHS) who was considering LSU for awhile but gave a verbal committment to UTenn last week.

Going back to the 80's, I can think of only 2 or 3 guys from Memphis who went to LSU. One was a punter and another was a Dback.

Per Dandy Don, we have one Memphis committment this year -- Josh Jasper, K, 6'0", 170, Memphis ,Tennessee, Ridgeway High School. Was recruited by Tennessee, Louisville, Memphis, Ole Miss, Auburn and Alabama. Selected 5A All-State kicker as a junior in 2005. Made 17 of 21 field goals and 53 of 57 extra points in 2005.
