Bama game in '00. Bama was punting to us. A guy gets blocked into our return man, and the ball rolls downfield. We recover. Flag was thrown because of the contact. Dubose is livid. Refs pick up the flag since the guy was actually blocked into the return guy. Bama ball 1st and goal from the 8 (ish). Tiger faithful EXPLODE into a chorus of boos!! Players start pointing at the Video screens that are running a continuous loop of LSU recovering the ball (wasn't even remotely close play). Refs overturn the call, and give LSU the ball. Bama's bench goes bezerk. 2 shirtless guys run out onto the field from the student section, and right after crossing mid field, they drop trou and moon the Bama faithful. One of them did a hell of a job avoiding police at first. juking and jiving (we should have given him a scholly). Ultimately, they both got slammed and escorted out. then we won the game, and the Goal posts came down (even though they were lubed with vaseline).
Beating Tulane on the football field and then literally "BEATING Tulane on the football field" in 1984 was pretty funny. The last 40 seconds or so of the game were not played as a result of the brawl. :hihi:
Ahh, you youngsters would have loved the old days. I'm talking about 1956/57 when a fight broke out in the east-side stands at the LSU! lefire: game and involved about 20,000 of the SEC's most inebriated fans. It wasn't exactly a 50-50 situation but then again the State Police didn't care so long as your cup was filled with Old Crow & Coke :hihi: Unfortunately, I was playing a high school football game  then (our Thursday night game rained out) but my dad and I definitely made the next home game! How did we get bourbon into the stands back then? The old-fashioned way! We would haul it up in a bucket from the top of the stadium - how else ??? Tiger Stadium has as many memories as the sum of all who have ever attended a game. My first one started in 1950. :geauxtige:lsup:
Fixed it for you. That was pretty funny! That was the last time either goal post came down. LSU wasn't too happy because we had taken them down for the Tenn. game that year as well.
The year was 1986, I think. We were playing State in Jackson. Bully, the guy in the bulldog suit was trying to taunt Mike. You know, one of those fake fights mascots play around with. This time, Bully had a fire extenguisher he was waving around. He ended up spraying Mike in the face, taking his breath away. Mike retreated to the rest of the cheerleaders. One of them had a broken leg, so there was a pair of crutches there. Mike grabbed one of the crutches, went after Bully and beat him so hard that Bully had to run away. Of course, every time we played in Jackson, we owned half the stadium, so the LSU fans went wild. The Tigers proceeded to put a beat down on the pups, something like 47-0. GEAUX TIGERS
That was the only game that I've sat in the student section since I was a student. Of course, we decided to storm the field along with the students. I noticed that all the students were sliding off the posts, so I bear-hugged one pole and told them to start climbing up my back. It took several minutes before I finally felt a "pop" and I let go. It was so hot, there were a ton of students crammed in and pushing, and I had been used as a ladded for several minutes. For a minute I thought I was going to pass out but then another burst of energy kicked in. That was the last game of the year and LSU had already announced they were replacing the field so much of the turf was taken as souvenirs. I was recently unpacking a few items from storage that survived Katrina and I found a LSU cup packed with purple and gold painted dirt with pieces of mesh inside. Of course, the grass is gone. :hihi: I hope that's the last time the goal posts ever come down again in Tiger Stadium. I hope beating Alabama will be the norm and not worthy of yanking the poles down. It was pretty special though as it seemed to be the moment the sleeping giant (tiger) awoke.
Lee Greenwood being there to sing "Proud to be an American" has to be one of the top moments in Tiger Stadium history.
Anybody have a video clip of Auburn kickers versus LSU's band? Auburn has a band director who in a LSU alum so they usually play in Tiger Stadium before the Golden Band from Tigerland takes the field. I guess this delays our band a few minutes. Two of Auburn's kickers took the field and didn't want to yield to our band so a little shoving ensued. We like to refer to it as the night LSU's band kicked the Auburn football team's ass! :hihi:
Two stories: 1. In the 70's, the Tennessee band did their halftime show in Tiger Stadium and then very stupidly marched off the field playing Rocky Top, double forte, right into the corner of the stadium where the LSU students sat. Right up to the fence. It was an intentional taunting since the visitors sit at the diagonally opposite part of the stadium. Drinking age was 18 at the time and security checks were cursory to non-existant. Well, . . . it rained whisky bottles on those poor bastards. Several bandsmen were injured and many instruments were damaged. Tennessee swore that they would never bring a band to Tiger Stadium again, but they actually did in the 1990's. A couple of Tulane cheerleaders came over and were swinging big "T" flags in front of the students and got the same treatment. LSU now forbids any opponent's cheerleaders, band, or mascot to enter the north end zone. 2. Bearing all that in mind . . . Alabama came to town every other year and during the pre-game workouts, Bear Bryant would always walk down to the LSU end zone and lean against the goalposts. Nobody tossed nothin'. The students would actually get quiet. After 5 minutes or so, he'd walk over, nod to the students and walk slowly back to his team and receive a polite cheer. No other rival ever got that treatment, I mean nobody. . . . Never seen anything like it.
I wonder if the current Alabama coach will receive the same treatment when he visits Tiger Stadium...:hihi:
