Sounds like it's close to a done deal. So much for all of this talk about screwing this up.

Because he hasn't done it as a HC for very long, and he has no SEC ties. He is a less sure commodity, thus a fallback. Fisher has done it as a HC at a big school for a reasonable stretch of time, has a NC as a HC, has LSU ties, not just SEC, and can clearly recruit. Herman may be good. Fisher is good.

Drawbacks to Fisher are mainly financial cost, and risk of players getting away with too much under his watch.

And perhaps being overrated. But even if all the negatives are correct, it would still be a coup for Alleva.

That's fair if you are the many looking for instant gratification without much of a fallout. Fisher is a little lesser know for taking someone elses players and turning success. This cat got a rep for taking small stars and creating a galaxy...around that talent. He adjust and that, to me, adds up to a great start and watch us next year. He doesn't seem to be a system guy and of all, that impresses me the most. Don't wanna take away from jimbo, but he is comfortable in his ways. I want someone that is paranoid enough to have a solid plan b and c.

Whiny? Spoiled? Not hardly, amigo. I haven't been on this board since Miles was hired calling him an idiot and looking forward to the day he would be fired.

I have liked Miles; I still like Miles, but the program is trending downward, and it's likely time for a change. It still makes me sad because I don't find it terribly amusing to see people fired.

You are opposed to Jimbo, who is, in fact, a proven commodity as a NC-winning coach. If we hire Jimbo, I'm okay with that. I might be okay with Herman, but no one knows too much about him, yet.

If a Herman is hired, I was a Tiger yesterday, I am a Tiger today, and I will be a Tiger tomorrow. I will get on board to support our coach because I want LSU to be successful.

You are putting just as much stock in Jimbo being able to translate his game from one school to another, the same that I am doing with Herman.

That's what you fail to realize. Jimbo nor chip nor urban or Herman or anyone is a "proven commodity " yesterday is as useless as the can be.

I'm not going to argue this with you, Shane. Fisher is a proven NC coach. Herman is a proven NC OC. There is a difference there. Herman may get there in time because Fisher was a proven NC OC only at one time, too. This whole thing, of course, is a risk.

But our necks are out there, so I believe we'll push forward--hopefully moving pretty quickly.

The life expectancy of reasonable Gumps is quite short within the borders of Bama, Godspeed.
