No municipality has the right to infringe upon the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Cities with gun crime problems don't have a "gun problem." They have a criminal problem. I was sort of expecting this because I have heard of it happening in China and elsewhere. Mass stabbings. No guns. Just knives. Now there have been a couple of school mass stabbings in the USA. Where is the outcry to ban knives? Whats next? Baseball Bats? 2 by 4s? Sharp sticks?
The right to bear arms cannot be construed to mean the right to bear arms anywhere, anytime, for any reason any more than free speech allows us to shout fire in a crowded theater. We can't carry guns on airplanes for a very good and important reason. We don't allow them in schools for the same reason. The Constitution sets broad guidelines that have stood the test of time. But many, many other detailed laws are in place because the Constitution cannot by nature address everything. More importantly, as time and technology advances and evolves, laws must do so as well. The Constitution, by being a broadly stated document, subject to interpretation as needed, does not require constant revision.
This lie has been recycled enough that people actually believe it. I grew up around the hardest working people I have even seen, yet they are all poor. Most of the wealthiest people I know (and who live in America) didn't do shit to earn it. They inherited it. That kinda blows the whole spiel about how hard work is what solves poverty out of the water. Most poor people in this country and elderly and white. Are you calling them lazy?
Not sure what being white or any color has to do with any of this.. Also not sure where you get your data, but the working age groups are the poorest.. IF anything, its the kids in this country that are the poorest which is a reflection of their families who are generally of working age. 2 sources: https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/about/overview/ The poverty rate in 2012 for children under age 18 was 21.8 percent. The poverty rate for people aged 18 to 64 was 13.7 percent, while the rate for people aged 65 and older was 9.1 percent. None of these poverty rates were statistically different from their 2011 estimates.1 http://kff.org/other/state-indicator/poverty-rate-by-age/
That's just one step of many that doesn't guarantee wealth. It is very rare for one to acquire great wealth because they were smart and worked hard. This country is slam full of smart, hard-working people who are poor. Most of them just don't want to admit they're poor and keep voting for people who support policies that they think benefit them because of this false sense of wealth.
Sport it is the opportunity to become rich that attracts those smart hardworking poor people you note. Look at the people from all walks of life who become rich...entertainers, athletes, computer/internet bankers. Do you begrudge Oprah, Michael Jordan or Robert Johnson their wealth? They were smart, worked hard and had success. The percentage of people who are 1st generation wealthy is greater in the US than anywhere. Unlike you (apparently) and the so called progressive politicians they aren't jealous of those who strike it rich. Those validate the idea anyone can become successful and wealthy and being born into the "right" family isn't needed.
