Chris Gilippo, the stud LB going to USC, after seeing McKnight in the all-star game, said that the only person he can compare McKnight to is Reggie Bush. Damn.
The only "shot" Alabama has is an outside one, if that. I believe he'll end up at LSU but will struggle on his decision between USC and LSU. No doubt I'd love for him to stand up on NSD and say "Bama" but it would be a long shot and minor miracle.
Spoke with a McKnight extended family member yesterday. The last info he had was that it was between USC and LSU, and USC was slightly leading. This info would have been before the meeting between McKnight and Crowton yesterday. I don't think anything has been decided, especially with the coaching changes at USC right now. That may be the deciding factor. Either way, we won't know until next month.
Read that USC is bringing in about 5 current commits for this weekend to help sway McKnight, and Everson Griffin (developed into a friend of Joe's) is flying in on his own dime (yea right).
My gut tells me that McKnight is the one big fish left out there that LSU might miss on....he is the type of player that can go anywhere and shine...even on a lesser talented team because of his freakish athleticism....so he may opt to go to Bama or Ole Miss over LSU because of touches .... I mean with Early, Keiland, Holliday, Hester, LeFell, Broussard, Scott, Murphy, etc.......it will be hard to get McKnight 10-15 touches per game and at Bama or Ole Piss he will be gauranteed those touches. So early PT and a chance to be the Big fish in a small pond or LSU an 7-10 touches per game and the chance to be a star on a team full of stars????? I still feel confident about Stefan Tolliver Jones and I would say 50-50 on McKnight
I don't like the fact that McKnight told Saban he would visit 'Bama the last weekend before signing day. I know we've all read (or heard) of the highly questionable tactics of Saban, and his continued "mud slinging" at Les Miles and the rest of the LSU coaching staff, but when you have a player like McKnight, who actually lives with JT Curtis (who's probably as close as to being a friend as Saban has in the high school ranks).
ATLBengal is right. He's scheduled a visit 2/2. I known I'm repeating myself here...but, we (as in Bama) didn't initiate the contact, he did through his HS coach the day after Saban was announced.
According to tigerbait, that trip is not yet set. What I read was that Saban contacted JT Curtis as soon as he was announced - not the other way around.
What I've posted isn't something I've read, it comes from within the Athletic Dept. As far as what Tigerbait is reporting, Curtis told McKnight not to go official with the visit because of the response he was beginning to get from some LSU fans and didn't want Joe to go through the same thing.
