Only thing that worries me is that McCray goes from being a presumed 3rd stringer to the starter, especially considering how well Brandon Taylor supposedly performed. I know people say practice doesn't equal games but if he got consistently outperformed by Taylor and Brooks, which reports seem to indicate, then I'd imagine ole Danny boy is on a very short leash.

He's been around, and as much as I hate the heirarchy, I don't have a problem with giving the kid a strong chance in his senior year. Maybe the light bulb has clicked and he can parlay a strong year into getting drafted. It's very understandable for a coach to consider the future of his senior players, but hopefully it won't be a detriment to the team. I just hope it's figured out well before the Florida game...

Looking at his physical build and blown coverages when matched up with slot receivers last year, McCray appears to be built more like an undersized Big-10 linebacker than an quick, aggressive, hard hitting LSU Tiger Strong Safety.
I hope I am wrong but this is the one thing so far that scares me about our defense. The good news here is that I have been wrong so many times in my life.....this probably is a lock to be a great move for the Tigers.

I don't think you're following me. Even when he wasn't going full speed, he was better than everyone else. My boy AB (was his coach) says it was more RR not wanting to embarass his teammates with college scouts watching every single practice than not wanting to go full speed. Bastrop had a great secondary his soph and junior years, and they couldn't handle him in practice...well except Bud Patterson who totally blew it. He had a chance to be elite.

He killed himself in the weightroom and on conditioning though.

I gotcha now, but I just hope he is going all out in practice now. Kid has a chance to play right now and make a huge impact.

I think he'll be fine, and the legend will begin game 1. But he has to want it and I believe he does.

The only thing guaranteed to RR is that once he proves his greatness, he will be added to the "I'm not as old as I look" list with Lebron and Greg Oden. RR doesn't look a day under 33 in the face, LOL.

I think I could start a thread "WHO SHOULD HOLD THE EXTRA POINT ATTEMPTS?" and still, somehow..... it would turn into a thread on Ruben Randle starting.

I hope you are wrong. That will mean I am wrong too, because I don't think McCray has what it takes. His mental lapses, physical limitations and poor ball skills have left me screaming at the television for years. He has had his chance and performed poorly. There must be someone better. I have zero confidence in him. There are those who say he does o.k. when he isn't in man coverage or in the right scheme, but I am not convinced.

Those would be the same people that have failed to realize that a good offensive co. know's exactly how to put him in those situations. Crowton knows how to find the weak link.....so do the other good guys.

do you really think if chavis thought mccray sucked or otherwise really wanted hatcher to start that clm would override? i would think chavis would have more pull than peveto or mallory. then again, the whole vincent thing happened under jimbo.
