On Dandy Dons website, per Les Miles. McCray Starting at Strong Safety, backed up by Hatcher and Taylor. anybody have a problem with this? I think I am ok with it for the first couple of games.
I bet Hatcher outperformed him, but he is a senior and we all know what that means. That does not bode well for Randle if that is the case. The first time I see him out of place by 22 yards, I am gonna.......well I don't know what I'm gonna do but it won't be pleasant.
I agree, I think its because he is a senior, Hatcher is probably the better player, but Im not the coach.
I don't know our scheme well enough but maybe he won't have as much one on one coverage as a SS vs nickle back. Maybe he's stepped up and is showing the coaches he can handle the job. I'll trust our coaches unless given a reason to doubt them. Carry on.
Miles does have a senior preference but its worked out pretty well in the past. Hard to argue with his rational considering the success rate. He was pretty emphatic ojn the radio about how much the seniors helped the freshman. I bet there is a lot of rotation among the defensive backs so who starts may not be that important.
That's what I was thinking Hatcher. It's the man coverage that is the problem. I also think the whole "starter" thing can be a bit overblown. It doesn't really mean what is used to. There is much more rotation these days.
...times three. Besides, we have better coaches and likely MUCH better schemes this year so I think we can count on less confusion with the coverages. It often seems that Miles prefers upperclassmen and I myself have thought that way in the past...then Patrick Peterson showed up. I believe that he gives the upperclassmen the benefit of the doubt as long as the competition is close. If the youngster isn't OBVIOUSLY better or the coaches feel he's not completely in tune with the schemes, then the upperclassman plays. And don't worry about Randle. He'll be the slot receiver (something Crowton loves to use) and get his fair share of throws. In fact, I like that idea because he's supposedly a great YAC guy.
Randle over Mitchell and Jackson? It seems likely, but Miles comments on Randle yesterday about him needing to play faster could be saying alot about his development.
