That's just customary. He knows he can't throw his players under the bus without that qualifying statement.
I did have to coach her not to talk AT ALL to one of her best friends about the game. This friend is not only a sore loser at everything, but her dad is an Alabama grad. (They were NOT invited to this watching party.)
It was awkward because her mom and I didn't speak a word about the game during the girls' ballet class that morning, either.
Saban's a good coach, not as good as Les, but a damn good coach. He's been preparing McCarron all season long, especially with the last game against Tenn. He waits til they have a nice lead, & then he turns him loose to throw to gain some confidence. I saw it in that Tenn game anyway, I'm sure that was the plan for the other games as well, although I didn't see them. He let him throw a lot more than I thought he would last night. And McCarron did exactly what most of us thought he would, buckled under pressure against the best D in the country. However, I will say this...he's only a soph, so he has 2 more years left. Richardson will probably leave after this year, but they'll have LA's own Lacy running the ball, & he's gonna be a beast. I think McCarron will be better than McElroy was, maybe even better than Wilson. I think these 2 teams are primed to be the best in the West for the next 2 or 3 years after this year. Our Sr. QB's aren't good passers at all. When Lee's on, he's on, but when he buckles under pressure & makes that first mistake, he's out of mentally the whole game. Thank God for Jefferson's running ability. It was just enough to get past bama. I think Lee will come back nicely the next few games, especially at home. BUTTT, next year is a different story, b/c our Sr's will be gone & Mett will get the keys to the offense. If RR comes back, he'll have plenty of offensive studs at WR to throw too. Mett has the ability to be able to successfully throw the deep ball with consistency, something we haven't seen in many years with this offense. Can you imagine, a stud QB playing for LSU? With our stable of great backs & our dominant D behind him? WOW! But then again this is LSU & they love to play small ball, run, run, run, bubble screen, option, run run, maybe take a shot downfield once throughout the game, run, run, run. But hopefully with coach Krag & Stradawa will utilize his talented arm & buck the trend for th 12' & 13' seasons.
I'm hoping Jim McElwain and Kirby Smart get head coaching gigs next season. That's the real strength of this Bama team.
