Yes I am ready to move on past discussing the Game of the Century too, but I just Re-watched it this morning for the first time. This is what stood out to me the most. Many of the posters here acknowledged that the 2 biggest plays of the game were: 1) The Reid Interception 2) The Wing 73-yard punt I didnt realize until this morning that BOTH of those plays happened in essentially the SAME series and that BOTH huge mistakes were made by ONE Bama player: Marquise Maze 1) He threw up a floater on the Reid Interception 2) He didn't even try to catch the punt by Wing 4 plays later. Ball game.
I hope that dude is a senior or leaving for the draft. Not because I think his abilities are a threat to us in the future, but because I'm sick of hearing that ridiculous name. I mean "Mar-queeze"? What's wrong with good ol' "Mar-keese"? It makes me think of the word "queef" every time I hear it.
It was Saban's decision to put him out there on a gimpy ankle on that punt. You can't blame Maze. Saban is a dunce. He really is. The pass play should have worked, but Reid made the most unbelievable recovery on a play that you will ever see (and it wasn't even his assignment). No blame to Maze in this game. He got shut down like we all thought he would. But that's credit to our CBs, not necessarily a bad mark on Maze. He's a decent player. That's it. The real weak link is McCarron. 4-11 for 14 yards when they got the ball inside the 35 of LSU. And took 2 back breaking sacks.
Brandon Taylor blew coverage on that play and it would have been a no throw and a sack, or just a straight out INT with return yards if he threw it into coverage. Reid made a tremendous play. And, yes, I concur, Saban is a dunce.
Maze was playing on a gimpy leg. I blame Saban for putting him under that much pressure unders the circumstances.
saban was the weakest link.......he's the one to be thrown under the bus, its about time someone did........
Man I love this Forum! Thanks for straightening me out. You guys are right. SABAN is the one who called the trick play and allowed a banged up punt returner onto the field at a critical series in that game. Wow - where were all the Talking Heads on ESPN and CBS blasting Saban for this???? Ok does anyone know how I can edit a thread? This title needs to be changed!
