I watched the fight at a pretty great place in Austin, and was surprisingly the lone Mayweather fan. I'm always leery of guys that are big DLH fans, but that's their prerogative. I thought Mayweather did what he had to do to win, but not really win over many new fans. He wisely used his incredible punching accuracy to score more points than the flashy, ineffective, sloppy punches from DLH. I understand some folks don't like the scoring and whatnot, but that's boxing. Always has been. There's just a premium on not getting killed, so defense is stressed more than it used to. DLH was MUCH better than I thought he would be -- especially on defense. His handspeed seemed better than previous fights (e.g. loss to Mosely) as well. If he hadn't abandoned his left jab, he may have won the fight -- or at least made Mayweather open himself up more. Instead, he inexplicably stopped throwing it, and began to tire. All hail Mayweather.
You, more than any other poster on this forum, keep me confused. Just when I think I have you figured out, you go and say something like this. How can you possibly support such a poor character as mayweather? Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of boxing, but this fight caught my interest just due to my dislike of mayweather. Mayweather is just another fine example of what's wrong with our society. The only way I can think to describe him is total P.O.S.
Thanks Salty! :hihi: I love Mayweather's boxing style and dedication to a dying (some would say already dead) sport. I don't think there's a boxer out there that trains with his focus and determination. His hard work has paid off, and that's a great inspiration. I think a lot of his act outside the ring is just that -- an act. Good v. Bad fights make money, and he's long-positioned himself as the boxer in the proverbial black hat. And by now you must know that I typically like pro athletes that push people's buttons. It's entertainment, and people getting worked up about athletes' personalities can be the best entertainment.
Didn't take the time to read the thread but just one thought. Judges scoring boxing is worthless. One dude got $25 mil and the other got $10+ mil. Let 'em fight until it's over. For that price, I wanna see some mofo on the canvas. Boxing ain't been worth a $hit since Pabst Blue Ribbon quit sponsoring.:hihi:
