Anybody else thoroughly excited about this fight?? Boxing has declined so much over the years, that it's just rare to get any sort of a big time match-up. I find the best boxing matches are bizarre Mexican featherweight fights in small arenas on hispanic TV. A cook at one of my dingy taquerias here turned me on to them. But I digress...

This is a big time matchup, if only because of De La Hoya's stature and Mayweather's brilliance. Normally the hype doesn't match up with a boxer's ability, but that is simply not the case with Mayweather. I'll be curious to see how he does in the bigger weightclass. There's little reason to think he'll be any less phenomenal.

If you haven't seen Mayweather in action, check out his '05 destruction of Arturo Gatti for the Lightweight Belt. Holy cow, the fight was essentially over after three rounds. Gatti, who's a decent but not great boxer, looked like a drunk bum off the street.

I'm not sure Mayweather will have the strength to knockout De La Hoya, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out.

    So what say you?

Yea, I saw your original post, and that sentiment is right.

De La's cutesy sissy voice just drives me nuts. He's always sounded like that, but it's so irritating.

De La's only chance is one or two big punches. That doesn't bode well for him because Mayweather has the best defense I've ever seen.

I'd be excited about Mosely/Mayweather. Delahoya is practically in the Mayweather family. All the pre fight antics Floyd has been pulling is just how the two of them planned. This will end in a trilogy, of course. :)

I guess Im gonna bite the bullet and buy this fight. It will be one of the rare fights I buy these days but there is enough interest in this matchup to at least give it a shot.

I have always been a huge boxing fan but it sure has waned in recent years. The entire boxing world is a major cluster &%$^. Its too bad because up until about 8-10 years ago you could be assured of at least 2 or 3 great fights in any given year. We dont have the number of star quality boxers anymore or freak shows like Tyson to watch.

Mayweather is one of the best fighters I have seen in a while. I think he will pretty much eat Oscar up. That Gotti fight was a major beating and although I dont think Oscar gets beat up like that, he's a much better boxer, I still think he gets beat up pretty good.

That's why UFC is doing so well right now. They are organized and promoted how boxing should be.

that's so true. I've tried watching UFC and I just can't get into it. I keep thinking "pro wrestling" when I see UFC, even though I KNOW that couldn't be farther from the truth.

I actually found a guy yesterday that is picking De La Hoya. He's an interesting dude, as he watches a LOT of sports, but seemingly has no knowledge of them. Sometimes his opinions make absolutely no sense, and this is just a perfect example.

3rd round knockout... De La Hoya had a couple years when no one decent was around to fight him, then when good boxers came around, he was shown for his true suckage...

Mayweather is a loudmouth piece of trash. I hope he gets knocked out in the first round. I'm no De La Hoya fan, but I hate Mayweather's lack of respect, sportsmanship and decency.

de la hoya had mad skills but im not sure he does anymore as he has spent the last 5 promoting moreso than hard training it seems. or making ricky martin-like cds. 10 world titles in 6 weight classes speaks for itself though.

theres plenty of great boxers, it has nothing to do with a deficiency in numbers. its the crooks in charge with 400 different divisions sacrificing the sport to keep their own share of the pie instead of integrating much like pride/ufc smartly saw in their much shorter existence. boxing still hasnt and wont.

the best boxing has always been on the latin circuit and always the lower weights. in america though, only the fat guys draw the biggest tickets and paydays. theres only so many times a true boxing fan can survive the larry holmes and george foreman retirement homes being the marquee names recycled while ignoring the actual talents.

i miss the little michael carbajal/chiquita gonzalez guys who would fight and need a pint of blood after each round. those dudes still exist. yet the don kings have polluted and diluted the sport so bad its beyond recovery in the short term.

As nlmd alluded, they are there even though its almost impossible to find in your average american market. great boxing is one of the most impressive sporting events you can witness live. the energy and electricity of an anticipated fight in person is pretty indescribable.

agree, hes a disgrace to the sport. not like it needed help. thats partly why he and his dad arent close. its not staged, he knows his son is a prick.
