With the current system that's a difficult proposition if you have NC hopes and play in a relatively weak conference.

I remember hearing Gordy or someone else on the radio talking about the weird OOC schedule LSU has been on the last few years. The conversation turned to how it's getting more and more difficult to schedule traditional home-and-aways between big programs, which is one of the reasons schools are going more towards these one-off games at neutral sites (which I don't generally like, for other reasons). Years ago it was more common to kick off the season with some big matchups. How often do you see that now?

The BCS system has made games like LSU/Oregon high-risk, high-reward. If Oregon loses and wins the Pac-12, they still get the OOC brownie points for an NC shot. An LSU win pads the NC resume if we drop an SEC game, but a loss takes us deep down the NC ladder early and comes back to bite us iif we don't run the SEC table. The flip side is teams like Florida that play a soft OOC but count on winning the SECCG in a brutal conference to get to the big game.

Then there's the Boise's of the world. For BCS conferences scheduling them is like getting into a bar fight with a girl. If you beat her up, you were supposed to win anyway. If she kicks your a**, you just got beat up by a girl. There's no reward in that formula for big schools.

I remember years ago when we scheduled the Ducks as a rent a win. You've come a long way.

I hear this often - stat nerds go through the list of OOC games yet never seem to look at the record and ranking of SEC teams that we have to play year in and year out. How bout this - until the girls in the Pac12 man up and put 6 to 8 really good teams on the field the Pac12 shouldn't be allowed to play for a NC !

A PAC 12 team plays two or three real games a year and the rest of their schedule could be ran by vandy.

    Here's a stat for you.

This is the only one that matters to me

Not one of those games involve Vandy so I guess that kinda weakens your argument.

The SEC is much deeper but let's not throw the baby out with the bath water.

I honestly feel that each conference has a few high caliber teams that can truly take a run at the title this year.

In my opinion, it’s the caliber of the “middle of the road teams” that separate the conferences. I feel that what one may consider a “middle of the road” team in the SEC, would easily sit, as a high caliber team in the other conferences. Having said that, I still think that the high caliber teams listed below would still be considered high caliber teams in the SEC and probably fair just as well.

I feel that each of these teams could easily finish 1, 2, or 3 if they played in the SEC:

    BIG 12: Oklahoma; Texas A&M
    BIG TEN: Nebraska; Wisconsin
    PAC 12: Oregon; Stanford
    ACC: Florida State; Virginia Tech

BUT, I feel that each of these SEC team could finish 1, 2, or 3 in ANY conference including the SEC

SEC: Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi State

Thanks for the nice words. I would like to comment on the scheduling issue a bit. First, because of how the PAC-10 was set up (full round robbin schedule) teams could only schedule 3 OOC games. In the SEC you have/had the flexibility to schedule 4 OOC games. So it was easier for SEC teams to go out and schedule tougher OOC opponents. That being said going back and looking at the 2002-2011 schedules, Oregon has played 14 quality OOC opponents over that period to 11 for LSU. I defined quality as being from a BCS conference or being a top 25 program. Oregon played 11 BCS teams plus Boise St twice and Utah once. Sort of wish we hadn't had BSU on the schedule..... :(

So what it really comes down to is conference image. The SEC gets top scores in that area (although that eastern division looks like they are slipping). As for the Ducks scheduling, conference scheduling is out of there control. However, now with 12 teams and a Conf Championship game I believe we can now start scheduling 4 OOC games.

We certainly do get A's in that area. I know it irks some OOC fans that any given team/fans will chant, "S...E...C". We pimp our conference. :D

If you know of any level-headed Duck fans like yourself, invite them over to chit chat.

Sadly I remember those games ALL to well!!!! I remember going into Autzen a few minutes into the first quarter. The four of us, my buddy and our wives, walked down to about the 30th row on the 35 yard line and picked a nice open area to set up our picnic. We brought table cloths, a picnic basket and spread out over about a dozen seats. We didn't have anyone in the stands within 10 yards of us. We proceeded to have our picnic while the game was going on. I'd bet there weren't 8,000 people in the place. I'm not even sure we paid to get in. I think that's why we waited till after kickoff. LOL

Now Duck tickets are hard fought in divorce courts. Things have changed big time.
