Maybe it's just my sunshine pump working overtime, but I don't get the sense that the situation with Jennings and Miles is the same as that with Jefferson. I believe that Miles sees Harris as the QB that will take this team to the next level. I think it's more a fear of the Lee experiment that is creating the cautious approach with Harris.
I said his numbers were worse. It isn't about just the numbers. Still no reason to invoke the garden gnome.
The landscape of college football is entirely different now than it was 12 years ago. Or shit, even 6 years ago. The majority of teams are running some variation of the spread, and are scoring a hell of a lot more points than in years past. It used to be that you could win the SEC with nothing more than a stout defense and running game. You could hide your QB. Not so anymore. The spread creates too many mismatches and often nullifies the talent disparities. You simply have to be able to score points because even a suffocating defense will still give them up. It's clear to me that Harris is much more talented in the facets of the game that are required to operate that type of system. He makes quick decisions, can run like a deer, and has an absolute cannon. He is a natural in the shotgun. Hell, Jennings can't even complete a god damn screen pass, yet Harris executed it to perfection to Williams Saturday night. So, yes, even in very limited time, it's become obvious that Harris is much more well-equipped to run that type offense. Yes, he will make mistakes. But I'd much rather him make them this year than next, when we have a legit shot to make the playoff. Get him out there and let him mature. Waiting until next year is simply a bad idea.
Difference is, Mauck had a running game to bail him out and a defense that no one could do anything on. Jennings has neither.
Jennings is not good at short passes , not good at medium passes, has a nice deep ball. Terrible at going through his progressions he's a one read and run type qb and who does that remind us of. We spent all that time with Jefferson trying to develop him and he was the same all throughout his LSU career. Jennings = Jefferson he is what he is and would rather run first when the first option is not open. JJ didnt turn the ball over either but constantly going 3 and out. That's what we have in Jennings Harris is the opposite and in the limited time we have seen him IMO he seems to want to use his legs to create throwing room and let his arm and teammates do the work. He needs to start now and get his experience now.
How are you supposed to be trying to win a title next year and the guy who will help you do that you hold back the previous year. Maybe miles makes promises to these kids when he's recruiting them that he tries to uphold but it's idiotic not to have your best players on the field ...true freshman or not
