It's a very simple concept: all else being equal in passing ability, everybody would start the guy who can pass well and run well over the guy that can just pass well ...and as athletes naturally get better and better as the years go by, it's only common sense that more and more NFL QBs will both be able to pass well and run well as opposed to just being able to pass well
I thought the analogy made at least a little sense in that it compared the evolution of technology to the possible evolution we are now going through regarding NFL QBs. When you are going through this sort of change, it does not make sense to ONLY look at past history for a predictor of future results. Another huge evolution for NFL QBs was the evolution of the West Coast offense. If you look at all-time yards per completion by NFL QBs, you will notice that there are none in the top 30 that played after about 1990. I'm guessing that some people back then thought you couldn't win by dinkining and dunking your way down the field until the 49ers blew that theory out of the water. Of course, they were also fortunate to have explosive WRs that could take the 7 yd out and turn it into an 80 yd TD. With the league protecting pocket QBs with all of the rule changes, I think there will always be a place for the Mannings/Brady/Brees type. I also think Cam/RGIII/Kapernick are skilled enough to win at the highest level. Finally, there are probably too many variables for a two QB system to work in the NFL for a team long-term.
What is that thing about history repeating itself? The NFL has seen "running" QB's before. Tarkington, Cunningham, I'm sure there were more back in the day. Vick, Vince Young, $cam, That little phucker that is at atm right now. They just don't get it done in the league. **Jury still out on RGIII** The common denominator between them is they are all better runners than they are passers. QB's in the NFL get paid to throw the football and that along with some activity between the ears should be their strongest asset. Back on topic, I saw that Oakland was about to sign that idiot Young to a 1 year deal. WTF, why go through the trouble to make the deal for Flynn, put him in a competition with Pryor, only to sign one of the biggest bust to ever play in the NFL. Yeah, maybe the raiders just don't get it.
I think it'd be great (obviously) if Flynn went to Oakland and made them a winning team. Then, he'd have twice done what Jamarcus couldn't do, the other being win an NC at LSU. Sorry, no love for 'bama boy'.
Their MO is signing biggest busts in NFL history. What would be absolutely hilarious is if they gave Jamarcus a second chance. As funny as it would be, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Based upon my personal observations of their fans out here, there is no way is this gonna happen. They HATE J-Marc so much the Raiduhs would run a major risk of alienating their fan base moreso thatn they ever have in the past.
Yeah I know, but wouldn't it be hilarious if they did; especially after he burned them for so much cash the first time?
