This was funny: Happy Gilmore @_Happy_Gilmore 2h Matt Flynn accidentally signs with Oakland after thinking his agent was just playing an April Fools joke on him.
According to CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora's sources, the three teams that were in talks with the Seahawks about a trade for Flynn were the... 1. Raiders 2. Bills...coming off 8 losing season in a row, they just signed Kevin Kolb and will hold a private workout with top quarterback prospect Matt Barkley of USC today. Buffalo also held private workouts with Geno Smith, Oklahoma's Landry Jones , Tennessee's Tyler Bray and Florida State's EJ Manuel . Perhaps no NFL team spent as much time and resources scouting quarterbacks as the Bills this offseason. 3. Jaguars...went 2-14 last year, last winning season was 2007, they have QB Blaine Gabbert and are expected to draft competition for him in the upcoming draft. Ryan Nassib, Landry Jones , Tyler Wilson and Zac Dysert all have been discussed as possible draft selections And the Jags do have the option of selecting a higher-ranked quarterback (Geno Smith) with the No. 2 overall pick
Well one thing is for sure, Oakland fans are either gonna like LSU or really f'n hate LSU after this is done, and Flynn gets another chance to show a fanbase how much better than Jamarcus Russell he is.
After gettin' crap from EVERY Raiduhs fan out here for YEARS for wearin' LSU gear, I'm hopin' MF can play mo better than that other MF.
per Mike Florio of NBC Sports/Pro Football Talk Per a source with knowledge of the transaction, the Raiders have adjusted Matt Flynn’s contract to increase his guaranteed money from $2 million in 2013 to $6.5 million. All $6.5 million is fully guaranteed. To get there, the Raiders increased Flynn’s base salary from $5.25 million in 2013 and decreased his 2014 base salary by $1.25 million, from $6.25 million down to $5 million. Making the entire 2013 compensation fully guaranteed means that Flynn definitely will have a roster spot with the Raiders for the coming season. Also, the available escalators and incentives were increased by $200,000, with a maximum value now at $26.4 million over three years. Flynn already received $8 million from the Seahawks in 2012. i wonder what kind of car he drives? or at least rents for day trips
i bet Flynn's fiancee, Lacey Minchew (ex LSU Golden Girl, ex Miss Louisiana, and ex Miss Teen America) is happy they are moving to the Bay Area instead of Buffalo or Jacksonville
Q: Matt Flynn or Terrelle Pryor? A: See 2008 BCS Championship game. I echo the empathy for Flynn going to the Raiders. Last year, in his 1st full season with the Raiders, Carson Palmer passed for 4018 yards, 22 TDs, and 14 INTs. When was the last time a Raiders QB passed for over 4,000 yards? Seriously effed up if a team thinks a 4,000 yard season is something that needs to be replaced. If you look at the Raiders QBs since 2005, you see: Kerry Collins Marques Tuiasosopo Andrew Walter Aaron Brooks Josh McCown Duante Culpepper JaMarcus Russell Bruce Gradowski Charlie Frye Jason Campbell Kyle Boller Carson Palmer Terrelle Pryor Meanwhile, the Saints had: Drew Brees Chase Daniel (I think one game, maybe?) Have to wonder if Flynn's problem in Seattle was that he said something early on to Pete Carrol like "USC was NOT national champion in 2004!"
The QB for Ohio State in the BCSCG vs LSU was 5th-year junior Todd Boeckman. Terrell Pryor was in high school at the time. Pryor joined Ohio State the next year as the Parade National Player of the Year, the #1 ranked QB recruit by all the recruiting services, and the #1 overall recruit by all the recruiting services except for ESPN (who had him #4 behind DE Da'Quan Bowers, WR Julio Jones, and S Will Hill). Pryor beat out 6th year senior Boeckman as the starting QB as a true freshman after Ohio State's early season loss to USC, and went on to be Rose Bowl MVP with 266 yards passing and 72 yards rushing vs Oregon...and then Sugar Bowl MVP with 221 yards passing and 115 yards rushing vs Arkansas As for Flynn, who turns 28 in June, do you want him to hold a clipboard until he is in his 30s? As for the Raiders, you can throw all their recent history out the window with Al Davis gone. They are in complete rebuilding mode, having gotten rid of everybody from the front office and owner down to pretty much all their veterans, and are starting from scratch with a whole new culture, a fresh start. So it's a good thing, and worst case, at least there are little to no expectations for the Raiders to be good for a while, which is win-win for Flynn (he doesn't do well, that is to be expected on a team in complete rebuilding mode, so he can't lose) And finally, what do you expect, that a team with an established franchise QB like Brees, etc, is going to bring in Flynn as their starter instead? Which of the other options for Flynn would make you happy for him? These are the only other teams that haven't found their franchise QB yet...
