Maybe I"m a off base, but I think if he were trying to transfer to one of the elite programs, instead of Ole Miss, he gets to play. I've seen to much prefferential treatment to the football power programs over the years to not think what school is involved determines some of the NCAA's rulings.

I seem to remember one article on Masoli mentioning that you had to apply to graduate school at Ole Miss by the end of last May. Possibly a timing issue, he didn’t apply before the end of July or first of August. If this is the case, maybe the NCAA viewed the admission as some sort of preferential treatment. I guess we will see how the appeal plays out. lefire:
I think the NCAA got it 100% right on this one. It violates the "spirit" of the rule: Read more: BYU's move to independence, Jeremiah Masoli's denial; more mail - Stewart Mandel - SI.com Good for them. And given the nature of their statement, I don't think that there's any good chance that they'll change their stance upon appeal.
"There is no question in my mind Jeremiah is in the right place," Mississippi coach Houston Nutt said. "We're in the people-helping business. I want to plead with that subcommittee. He's done nothing but what he's supposed to do." I always suspected that Nutt was in the fast growing 'people-helping' business. This just proves that Nutt is a great guy with pure intentions.
Yeah not that i don't want Ole Miss to not have any excuses, but i didn't think he should be rewarded for being a criminal. If he isn't allowed to play and decided to leave Oxford, everyone needs to lock their doors. Someone is gonna need some going away money.
Yeah, I'm sure Nutt will text Masoli at half time during some of their games, like he texted his "friend" while at Arkansas.
Contained Chaos nailed it. The rule was intended to reinforce academic integrity and expand the options of STUDENT athletes. It was never intended as a safety valve end-run option for a guy who acts like a thug, gets kicked off one team/out of one school for aforementioned thuggery, and allows him to go to another school and pick up right where he left off like nothing happened. Answer me this; would Masoli be transferring to Ole Miss to major in "Recreation Management" if he had not gotten into trouble at Oregon? I think we all know the truth. Enjoy 2-10 Nutter Butter. You've earned it.
