I'm not going to say Marty is a horrible coach but I will ask this question. What is Marty's playoff record? 5-12 postseason? The Chargers looked like the best team in football this year with only 2 losses. There may never be another opportunity for Marty with a team this good! Bill Belichick was asked after the game: What did he think his chances at winning in this game. He replied I wasn't sure until I saw Marty on the other side then I knew we were going to win!
lose it already, we know you think every coach is a genius and should never ever be fired. we get it.
Not really, but the opposite applies to you. It's like clockwork. Every Sunday evening or Monday morning, you come on here with a thread about how a losing coach doesn't know crap. That's what is really tiring. Just keep on doing it and I'll keep on pointing it out.:thumb:
For the record, I think Marty is a complete buffoon and always have. But, he did not cost his team the game Sunday. I actually think he had his team ready to play. Here are some things that are not his fault that the Chargers did: - The WRs dropped more passes than I have ever seen in a game that didn't have terrible weather. Most of those passes I remember would have earned first downs. - A fumbled punt on their own 30-yard line. Not only did he muff the punt, he tried to pick it up and run with it instead of just falling on it. Dumb, dumb, dumb. - SD gets a big stop on 3rd down and that bozo #29 headbutts a Patriot right in front of the ref! - The interception that could have sealed the game, instantly fumbled right back to the other team. This was on 4th down, so it would have been better for the team if he had just dropped it. Just so I don't sound all pro-Marty, that challenge in the 4th quarter was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Ever. Too bad, I was gonna go and try to get tickets next week.
I called for Mason's head at Minnesota and it happened. Schottenheimer needs to go. Look for him to get the axe by the end of the week. The only thing preventing that from happening is the Cowher sweepstakes after 2007. They may do the same thing the Giants did and offer a 1 year extension. San Diego has something special here, and Rivers will only get better. They have to remove themselves of the only negative aspect of this team come playoff time, and that's Marty ball.
You know the entire challenge flag fiasco was a pure sign of desparation on Marty's part. There is no other explanation for it. Instead of gathering his defense together and pumping them up to go make another stop and put an end to a potential Pats comeback, he does this meek challenge of the fumble call. He definitely had that deer in the headlights "oh no" look on his face at that point. That's not the kind of coach you want as your leader in the playoffs.
While I am not gonna comment on past post by whoever. This time the comments are hitting the nail on the head. If the reason teams play the game is to win the big one to when the Big Game, then you have to get rid of the coach that cant EVEN get there. He had the better of the 2 teams and Home field YET still got out coached. And maybe it was just a bad draw to have to play aginist one of the best big game coaches in the history of the game. Marty has got to go reguardless of how the regular season is going. Marty is no different the Don Capers Capers is a GREAT coach at taking a new/young team and getting them to play WELL in their first 1 to 2 years, after that he SUCKS! Marty is GREAT for coaching a team through the regular season and could be brought into a bad team and have good success, if they are just content with having a good season, but eventaully they will want the Big Prize, just like in SD
How ironic that the Chargers lost this game because they passed the ball too much and didn't hand it off enough times in the 2nd half to LT. Marty gotta be thinking, what the hell you want from me? A victory, Marty. A victory.
Heard today on the radio that Marty Schottenheimer is not going to be fired and his assistants have all recieved one year extensions on their contracts. Film at 11.
