I didn't just point out the polls. I also pointed out Richt's win pct. Your job as a coach is to win football games. Richt has done that. He was OC for Florida State from 1990 to 2000, during which time FSU had one of the greatest football programs in history (from 1990 to 2000, FSU was #1 in the NCAA with a 88.6% win pct). Then Richt takes over as the head coach of Georgia. From 2001 to 2008, Richt's Georgia has been #1 in the SEC with a 78.8% win pct. How does he suck, again?
I really think you should visit an UGA message board. You'll see. It's something similar to when LSU loses to the #1 team in the nation and Miles sucks, only that Rich has not won a national championship and can't beat his biggest rival.
Actually, I'm reading a Southern Cal discussion board today, and you have people there screaming for Pete Caroll to be fired. Who is better Stoops or Richt? Richt's bowl record is much better than stOOPS... and stOOP's Sooner program dropped out of annual Top 25 contention Sooner than Richt's Georgia program did. I remember not too long ago, a lot of people were saying that Mack Brown of Texas sucked. Anybody saying that now? It's not easy to get a great head coach that makes you a winning program. Look at Notre Dame, they haven't been like Richt's Georgia since the early 90's/late 80's with Lou Holtz (and ND is paying Weis a boatload of money). Look at Bama... they haven't been like Richt's Georgia since Bear Bryant. Look at Oklahoma before Stoops, they were not good. Look at Miami now, they are not good. Look at USC before Carroll, they were not good. The list goes on and on.
Richt does have a good winning record %-wise but he fails to win the big games. If you can't win the big games, you become nothing more than a speedbump for other teams looking ahead to the NCCG. I'm just waiting on Richt to pull a Jim Mora style "playoff" comment. NCCG? I"m just hoping to win a game!
Big Saban with his big LSU 2004 team with his Saban recruits suffered the worst loss in LSU history to Georgia, 45-16. That was Richt's 4th-year Georgia team vs. Saban's 5th-year LSU team. That's pretty hard-core, no? Richt's Georgia program is 3-1 vs Bama, 5-3 vs Auburn, 5-3 vs Tennessee, 3-2 vs LSU... oh, but he is 2-6 vs. Florida. Fire him. That's what Michigan did with Carr after he lost six of his last seven games to Ohio State, and look at Michigan now (1-4 in the Big Ten and just lost yesterday to the team that was 0-5 in the Big Ten). When Carr was head coach of Michigan (1995-2007), they won one National Title and five Big Ten Titles. During that time, Carr's Michigan had a 75.3% win pct, #7 in the NCAA, and #2 in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. Compare to Richt as head coach of Georgia from 2001-2008: 78.8% win pct, #6 in the NCAA and #1 in the SEC.
That's just the nature of the business. Once again, I suggest that you visit an UGA message board. You don't have to convince us if Richt is a good coach or not. Try to convince Georgia fans.
If somebody said Richt was not a good coach, I'd think he was stupid. But yeah, this world has stupid people, even in the USA, even in Louisiana, even in Tiger Nation, and even in Georgia Nation.
I think Richt has done a good job with everything except for his record vs. Florida. He is a good guy, he made the wrong move for DC. Martinez needs to go, every loss this season except for Okie State has been a result of an inept defense. They score enough points to win, they just can't stop anyone, damn that sounds familiar.
