Usually when an athlete sprints to the locker room at halftime, it is because he has to go to the can. That's OK, at least they have been hydrating themselves.
Nonsense. The play calling was a big step up from last week and before. How about that shovel-pass middle screen? How about the passes on first down. Even the overthrown fade pass was a good call.
Fair points Red. It may be that we were at home with a friendly crowd the coaches were able to make these calls. It would give the team the ability to hear clearly and the confidence that they could absorb and execute the plays.
Same sideline passes and runs up the middle. The difference was the running game was effective beca use of better blocking and the QB had time.
Hats off to the offensive line and the defense. Congrats to the team for the 22 game home winning streak. The offensive line managed to contain one of the best DE tandems in college football. And the defense played aggressive, got turnovers, and stuffed Lattimore who was considerate a heisman candidate. Lastly, I think Mett deserves a little more slack from the fan base.
My issue with Mettenberger is him holding on to the football too long. On that play action to James Wright deep downfield, if he doesn't hold on to the ball so long, his arm doesn't get hit and there is no defensive play on the ball, Wright had his man beat by about 5 yards. Also on the sack he took, he needs to step up in the pocket instead of trying to escape backwards. No shame in getting rid of the football. Also I think our coaching staff really needs to think about keeping a tight end or blocking back close to the pocket as a check down, on every passing play.
Worst I've ever seen. It was definitely more balanced, but with the exception of the WareCat, the middle screen, and maybe one or 2 others, it was still the same old plays. SC's pick came from seeing that slant 3-4 times and dude just jumped the route, but to Stud/Miles' credit, we did come back with a slant & go, but Mett overthrew an easy TD pass. Yep, it's obvious they don't trust him to throw down close, but every coach in the SEC knows this as well. At some point, they're just going to have to take some chances or more than likely, it's going to cost us.
