Mark Emmert suddenly cares about the integrity of college sports

    On campus, graduate students get paid salaries based upon what they bring to the table. I pay some of them very basic wages for doing routine work that any bright student can do. Others that are doing very special analytical work get paid very well because they are marketable talents.

    But undergraduates usually get paid by how much time they have worked. I pay minimum wage to freshmen student workers. If they don't work out (and 75% don't due to poor work ethic, overt laziness, carelessness or attitudes),they get dropped. if they work out, then I give them a raise of a dollar every year. Seniors get $10.25 an hour and can work up to 20 hours a week.

    Even if the NCAA allowed universities to pay their players, there would still be hundred dollar handshakes and the like. As soon as you level the playing field, someone will be waiting to tilt it back in their favor.

    That said, I am 100% against compensating athletes beyond the scholarships that they receive. A free education is extremely valuable, and it's not my problem if certain athletes choose to piss it away. Regular guys like me bust their asses and graduate with $40k in debt, and I didn't even get to play football.

    Great article. Sums up my feelings perfectly.

    Or all the job offers that you'll get just because you were on the football team, or all the hot chicks you'll meet just because you were on the football team, etc., etc. Athletes get privileges that the rest of us will never get, even if they don't go pro.

    Special Athletic dorms have been outlawed by the NCAA. How does this work?

    Players are still going to take money. Even if you paid them.
