I met Mr. Jones and Corley at an event for the LSU players in the senior bowl this week.First of all they were very polite and down to earth people.Tony Jones said that Phelon was recruited by more than 20 schools and the one thing that stood out for him for LSU was LES miles. He said they felt the most comfortable and trusted him more than any other coach they talked to.You could tell he wanted his son in a place that was the best for his son and that was LSU for him.Mr. Corley was asked if Sidell was ever leaning towards Bama or a supposed bama lock. His answer was NO, never a BAMA lean or lock. After decommitting from UF he was LSU.My impression of these two men were they are classy individuals who are great ambassadors for LSU.:geaux:
Yeah, Mr. Corley and Mr. Jones said that Bama was never really considered, they just said so to appease the locals.
Let me simplify all this talk between recruits choosing between Bama or LSU. The goal of every player is to win a Conference Championship and a National Championship. The recruits that came to play at LSU last year achieved their goal this year. Any recruit that chooses to play at LSU this year has the very real opportunity to win a Conference and National Championship at LSU while playing for the Purple & Gold. Therefore I don't see any recruit that commits to LSU as a bad, questionable or shady decision on their part. Any recruit that selects a struggling program which has problems keeping and hiring good coaches will have a more challenging, up hill road to success in todays much more competitive SEC. It is what it is...
If that were true, then the championship team would have the #1 recruiting class every year...How many players commited to LSU after they won just because of that??? None that I know of...For some kids it is, but for others it ain't, some wanna be close to home, others want to play early, or are more interested in going pro...What I'm saying is that one player has a different goal to the next.
Yes, there are many other things that come into a decision. But I truly believe all players want to win a championship where they play. Not all players want or can play for LSU. LSU is not the only school in the SEC that can realistically compete for next years NC. I have to say Florida, Georgia and LSU have the best shot going into next year. My post centers on the players who select to play at LSU next year compared to other schools that have a longer shot to even win their schools conference title.
