I am sure that private employers can, but the state agencies and parole boards brings up a very interesting question. You would have to assume that they cannot. There is currently no way to assess someone's level of intoxication like there is with alcohol. I've said for years now that this is the biggest reason why it hasn't been legalized on the federal level.
I've been saying the same thing for years. It's complete bullshit to even bother because people don't wreck cars when they have been smoking the green and not drinking the grain.
I disagree, the reason why it hasn't been legalized on the federal level is because of powerful lobbyists for private prisons, alcohol and tobacco and big pharma who stand to lose billions of dollars if marijuana is legalized.
Those are also reasons, but I think the one stated above is the biggest reason. It reduces their ability to control it and "ensure" public safety in the event that it is legalized.
I couldn't agree more that the lobbyists and the Reefer Madness believing, let me impose my morality on you, idiots are the reason. The lack of a test to determine if one is currently high is a convenient excuse and a means to persecute those who imbide.
Since when do elected officials give a shit about safety? Do you think not wearing a seatbelt would be against the law if they couldn't fine you for it? It's about money, plus marijuana is safe anyway. I bet they would say the reason you stated was the biggest reason, and we would all like to think that is the biggest reason, but it's not. It's about $, and corporations with influence and power that can now donate unlimited amounts of money to campaigns having legislation on the federal level crushed.
Correct. It's certainly not about something as trite as a viable test. They arrest you for dick now already. Lots of eroded liberty all around.
Since always. Yunno, stop signs, DWIs, and shit like that. Wether they actually care or not is a different matter, but there are scores of laws centered around public safety. Uhhh, they can only fine you for it because it's against the law...just like speeding tickets. That being said, plotalot was correct when he said that stoned drivers don't cause accidents. However, that won't stop the govnt from using the safety angle as a case against it.
Exactly, it's against the law so they can fine you. If they couldn't fine you there wouldn't be a seatbelt law. And I agree they will tout safety as the excuse, but that's all the safety angle is, an excuse.
It's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. One extremely small battle has been won. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/arti...-all-misdemeanor-marijuana-4024296.php#src=fb
