so, lets say my dad hates motorcycles. he doesnt want me to ride them. but i love them. i am quite safe with them. in fact, buy one and ride it around and everyone is amazzed, i am responsible, wear a helmet, everything. but my dad hates it. he cannot sleep at night. his life is worse off. do i say "sorry old man, i am an adult and i like dangerous motorcycles" maybe i do say that. but what if my dad really is stressed terrible and it is bad for his health? do i pride myself on my honesty then? or do i get rid of the bike and cease to be a man making my own decisions? or perhaps i could just have the bike and not tell him? would you advise me to get rid of the bike and stop doing things that bother him? what if he explicitly asked me not to tell him? should i cause stress and ill health just to be honest? or should i stop doing things that i know are not wrong?

 

I would say it is your life and for you to do what your conscience can handle. Whining about being ratted out on a message board is unbecoming.

 

for the record this actually happened in college i had a bike and my dad found out and could not sleep and he later had yet another heart attack. he asked me not to tell him about things that stress him. and it also happens that my parents have a history with drinking that terrifies them irrationally.so its like the motorcycle. its an interesting ethical dillemma but an entirely different topic thn the political correctness things i was discussing.

 

i am not being ratted out, i am pointing out that the two issues are not related at all. its a a non point to bring up one from the other. its what cunts do.
