Wonder if our "fans" who are ready to draw and quarter O after 1 loss are up to the task of being classy quality fans worthy of a quality program. I was one of the few if not the only one here who predicted this loss. I predicted this loss based on what Miles left behind, graduations, a huge amount of transfers, attrition and injuries at already weak positions. As it turned out I was right. We lost on both lines of scrimmage where we are not only young and thin but injured. You "fans" put yourself in this position to be let down so man the fuck up and listen to Booger and Marcus and back your coach.
I'm cautiously optimistic that he can but it won't be overnight. I calling this season a wash and I'll have to settle for 8-4 and hope it's not worse but I'n not jumping off the Oeaux Train yet. For all the reasons that have been mentioned ad infinitum on this forum and elsewhere, the coaching staff has been handicapped by Miles past practices in ways most of us never even thought of. Main priorities now are: 1. Bring in some JUCO O and D linemen who can play next year. Yes this is stopgap and not a long term solution but a band-aid is still better than an open wound. 2. Recruit a bunch of big and mean linemen on both sides of the ball. It's been shown time after time that the smaller but faster linemen favored by Miles and Chavis are easily pushed around. I want the see the next Glenn Dorseys, Tyson Jacksons, Marcus Spears and Booger McFarlands. 3. Develop and get meaningful game experience for both Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse.
I will be 47 this week, and I have grown up an LSU fan. My first game was in Charlie Mac's 2nd to last season. I was a freshman at LSU in 1988 and then endured 6 straight losing seasons before DiNardo seemed to right the ship, only to fail miserably. I was an LSU fan all of that time, but I was in favor of letting Archer, Hallman, DiNardo, and (even) Miles go. However, I am NOT a fan of Joe Alleva or his sham of a "coaching search" that put Ed Orgeron at the helm of LSU. That doesn't make me a "fan," rather than a fan. Maybe O turns things around at LSU (because they have been going in the wrong direction for a while now), but there are some blazing red flags flying. If O turns it around, I will say I was wrong. I don't want him to fail because that will set LSU back into the 80's and 90's again, and I have enjoyed winning most of our games for this entire millennium.
O did a hell of a job last year after being thrown in on the fly. Last year he had some great players who are gone, no fault of his. He won 6 out of eight regular season games with a transfer QB and with a make shift OC who hadn't been and OC for many years. We only loss to Fla on the last play, held Bama to one TD and destroyed Louisville who had a heisman QB. He is now stuck with all the issues I mentioned so for Christ sakes we need to be fair to O . He needs at least 2 years unless he can't correct the problems he can correct such as penalties, basic football mistakes and changes to schemes both offensively and defensively. He can't correct the other problems. I too don't want to go through Dinardo and Hallman type years but damm guve the guy a chance.
To make a final judgment of O at this point is ridiculous. To not be troubled by what has been happening is to be blind. Yes we're young and thin but that's no excuse for the chinese fire drill we have right now. I won't judge him on wins and losses as much as improvement and discipline. I'm dismayed the Clapp thinks they're a disciplined team. I'm encouraged that so many spent Sunday studying game film and working on issues. That shows we're a work in progress and what happens over the rest of the season will tell us much. Like @StaceyO i knew it was past time for Les to go even though I supported him well past others. Likewise I didn't believe Ed was the best we could get after so long a time at the top and so much time to search. That's on Aleva and I think it's pretty unanimous that he and King are the true villains and need to go. Regardless Ed is our coach and I want him to succeed more than I can express. That doesn't mean he can't be and I won't criticize him. He is responsible for the product on the field. He is responsible for the lack of discipline and most of all he's responsible to work things out and get the team to play to its potential. We didn't Saturday night.
All well said. Not letting O off on this one either he has some splaining to do. His OC and DC has splaining to do. As I told Stacey some things needs to be fixed but only time, better coaching, players commiment to getting stronger and better and recruiting can fix the other problems.
I'm not calling for anyone's head. But I did see some things that were troubling Saturday night. A lot were of the "can be fixed quickly" type. One thing that's really burning my ass is the penalties and mental mistakes. Those are all on the players. It's time for the leaders on this team to step up to the plate.
