The 5-seed is the one we want to avoid. Almost every year a 12 beats a 5. A couple of years ago, I think 3 12s beat 5s. 12-seeds are usually second place teams from good mid-major conferences, so they have some talent and are pretty battle tested. Getting to the 4 is big, because 13-seeds tend to be either champs of chump conferences or lower 3rd place mid-majors.

The 6-seed isn't too bad. 11-seeds are usually bottom dwellers from major conferences (LSU had a pretty poor conference record in 86, but got hot in March), or weaker mid-major champs that sometimes have a big head. The 6-11 match-up goes to the 6-seed way more than the 5-12 game goes to the 5-seed. Additionally, the 11-3-2-1 route seems smoother than 12-4-1-2.

That said, I never have won anything with my bracket, so take it for what it is worth. Looking at the last two years, LSU should be happy no matter where they end up.

Great points all. And in fact there seems to be a bit of uncertainty as to where the talking heads think LSU will land. ESPN projects us as a 7 seed in the West region, and Fox Sports really shows us some love as a 5 seed in the South.

seems strange but those wins didnt carry much weight. win this weeks games and theyd likely jump 2 seeds.

keep in mind too that its not just how lsu does but how others near the same seeds do.

WOW, this week's "bracketology" is huuuuuuuuuuuge... we're in great shape.

6th seed in the East, going to greensboro and playing Michigan, a team we should beat..

A second round matchup potentially with Duke... a duke team very similar to the one we played in the sweet sixteen some years ago..

And then a sweet sixteen matchup with Kansas which is a winnable game for us...

While it is fun to speculate it is very hard to guess where we would be without the full season completed. My head hurts just going over the different scenarios. My guess is as high as 5 with no more losses to outside looking in with 3 losses.

As a far as March Madness there is nothing close other than the College World Series. That said I passed up free access to the LSU/UCF baseball game today to stay home and watch LSU/UK on TV. How is that for basketball passion?

If LSU finishes the last two games strong and puts in a good performance in the SEC tourny, I hope they'll get bumped up to a 4. Hopefully, the team is still focused, Vandy's no slouch and Auburn could give us problems on the road.

Looking like we will be 7 or 8 and based on the way this team has played the last four games they will be fortunate to win one game. Hopefully they can turn it around but it's not looking too promising.
