Re: Lets talk Ncaa Tournament seeding and possible positioning no. i think they should remove the automatic bids so there are less gimme games and more major conference teams. and cut it back to 64
Re: Lets talk Ncaa Tournament seeding and possible positioning well speak for yourself, I asked if ANYONE is with me? I'll scratch you off my list. :hihi:
"Jeff (Memphis): With a full three gane lead over everyone on the SEC, can we call the race over; and is it time for you guys to quit sleeping on and/or ignoring a very solid, experienced LSU team? SportsNation Jay Bilas: (4:08 PM ET ) Does a three game lead in the SEC for anyone provide any evidence at all that the SEC is not what it has been in the past? LSU is very good, and the Tigers have embraced defense and rebounding under Trent Johnson. That is a solid team. I really like Tasmin Mitchell, and you are correct that there is a lot of talent on that roster." http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=25131
"Matt (Atlanta): Jay, outside of the top 4 teams there seems to be no difference from number 8 to 38 this year. I think that means we will see several teams seeded 5th or lower make a run at the Elite 8. Which teams that aren't in the top 15 do you think could make a deep run this March? SportsNation Jay Bilas: (4:26 PM ET ) I would not disagree with that. There are a bunch of decent teams that have not shown high level consistency. I like West Virginia and LSU as teams to watch in that regard. I would also watch out for Kansas. The Jayhawks are good and getting better. Just young. I am sticking with my initial prediction of we finish the regular season no worse than 26-5, win the SEC Tourney, get a 5 seed, and make it to the Sweet 16.
If that happens, Trent Johnson will be a finalist and possible leading candidate to win the coach of the year award.
Re: Lets talk Ncaa Tournament seeding and possible positioning The field of 65 is too convoluted already. I like that a bunch of schools from minor conferences get an invite, but that 65th team hasn't really proven needed. I think too many major conference schools get invited, but still, March Madness is a blast and it is doubtful we'll ever carve away from 65. So... stay where we are at. Definitely no need for 4 more, though. PS - Oh yeah, and the sqwaking won't stop.
Re: Tournament Seeding. I'd agree with this. Personally, I think the best seed LSU can do is a 4 if they win the SEC AND the SEC tourney, and the odds are against that. They probably get a 5 seed consideration for winning the SECC outright, but a slip up in the end can send that seed down. Like Gumbo said, seeding in that range is somewhat irrelevant, you'd prefer to not be a 8 or 9 b/c those are always the toughest match ups day one. Some folks would argue a 6 or 7 seed is actually where upset runs come from (if I remember correctly, that's where Dale Brown made some of his runs), but 5-7 is probably where LSU deserves to be. More important is what bracket, where you play and who's in your brackets from a matchup standpoint. At this stage, LSU and LSU fans should be (1) happy that they made the tournament after their drought, (2) happy that they won the SECC (if they win), and (3) hoping LSU plays hard and to their ability in the tourney--anything past a first day win will make me appreciative of the effort they've put in this year.
