just heard lunardi and van pelt say how the committed got the SEC seeds just right. really, they specifically pointed out how this was the best thing about the job the committee did. their main support for this was laughing about how horrible the SEC tourney final was. and then lunardi goes on to say how teams with 25 + wins should be treated with respect (he was referring to st marys and san diego, that got snubbed)
Man I wish for a miracle beyond miracles that all three SEC schools make the Sweet 16...and the a bunch of 1 seeds go down. :hihi:
Yeah, I know, but they should kind of go hand in hand. I think that's pretty obvious. And as Berge's post showed, you can wipe your a$$ with those RPI numbers. Like I said, if they were consistent with everything they did, that would be one thing. But they aren't at all. Butler should be a higher seed as well. If they are so damn good (and they usually are), why are they a 9? Inconsistent seeding, that's why.
polls are based more on reputation. rpi is all #s. flawed #s, but #s. butler is good because of their history and because they look good. and particularly to lsu fans, because they handled xavier on the road. butler does particularly look good because of thier "body of work". they played two teams of note this year (at large tourney teams)---lost to OhioSt and beat X. they beat a couple other decent teams, but northwestern, uab and davidson arent juggernauts.
Ummm, Duke LOST to Michigan. You got that one backwards. The SECs problem was that the marquee wins vs. OOC teams were almost non-existant. If there were some of those there would be an argument. Without them it's just "we beat up on each other" and that crap argument isn't flying. The other thing that hurt LSU tremendously was the OOC schedule. It's my understanding that it was done for academic reasons and to incorporate a new system but the fact is that in the end it hurt the resume tremendously.
I don't like where LSU is seeded, but like I said several weeks ago, the fact that LSU is in the tournament is a success. Winning a tournament game would be a hugely successful season. Let's hope LSU gets that first win first. Then anything can happen.
the committee probably should've paid attention to arizona. how they get in over south carolina, or auburn, or even florida boggles my mind. this same committee should have given us a 6 seed.
I'll agree about Arizona. I'd put St. Mary's in before I put Arizona, South Carolina, Auburn or Florida but that's IMO. But a 6 seed? Why is that deserved. What OOC wins does LSU have that merit a 6 seed? What have they proven in competition against the rest of the country that merits a 6 seed? They went 13-3 in a conference that probably would have only gotten two bids if MSU hadn't the automatic bid. That typically doesn't spell a high bid for the 13-3 team.
