Texas A&M University System chancellor John Sharp defends Johnny Manziel and attacks NCAA regulations Texas A&M University System chancellor John Sharp finally spoke out on the Johnny Manziel autograph scandal, refusing to acknowledge that the Heisman-winning quarterback had broken any NCAA rules but stating that he believes college athletes should be allowed to profit off such activities. Manziel, who became the first freshman to win the Heisman last year, is being investigated by the NCAA. ESPN has reported it is for possibly receiving payment from memorabilia brokers for signing autographs in Florida, Connecticut and Texas this year. If he is found to have been paid for signing, it could compromise is amateur status and put his eligibility at risk. "I also think that there’s something, you know this is just me talking not as chancellor of the system, something is wrong with the system when we can make money off of our football players, the NCAA make money off of our football players and they can’t be treated like Olympic athletes," Sharp said in an interview with NBC 5's Chris Van Horne Thursday. Olympic athletes are allowed to sell their signatures at Texas A&M while other athletes are not. Sharp also questioned the fairness of the NCAA making profits off athlete likenesses while athletes are forbidden. "I suspect, courts or somebody or the NCAA is going to have to take a look at that and see whether or not they’re violating someone’s anti-trust deal. How can the NCAA, for instance, make money off of his jerseys and he can’t, you know, make two bucks off of signing something like that, like other athletes can who happen to be in the Olympics? That’s just my opinion.” The chancellor also defended that Aggie quarterback’s character. "I’ll tell you what’s true, without a doubt, he’s a good kid,” Sharp said. “He is an honest kid, he has his heart in the right place and I think a whole bunch of folks are mistreating him and I’m not very happy about that.” When asked if he was looking forward to seeing Manziel play in the season opener against Rice, Sharp said, “That would be an understatement.”
if Johnny Football breaks a rule, then that was a dumb rule in the first place If Johnny Football gets pulled over he lets the cop off with a warning. Johnny Football was once told his urine tested positive for steriods. Johnny Football responded with a laugh and said "Where do you think steroids come from? Johnny Football doesn't wear a watch, HE decides what time it is. Johnny Football ordered a Big Mac at Burger King, and got one. When Johnny Football was a kid, he made his mom finish his vegetables. Johnny Football can touch MC Hammer When taking the SAT, write "Johnny Football" for every answer. You will score more than 1600. Johnny Football and Chuck Norris once had a talk. Chuck Norris walked away a better man. Johnny Football doesn't run down the field, the field moves under Johnny Football God thanks Johnny Football before dinner Life doesn't give Johnny Football lemons. Life asks him which fruit he wants.
We should stop the bullshit and start paying athletes a "fair" amount. Manziel should get excommunicated and kicked the eff out of that skool. Jay Bilas is the man. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/06/jay-bilas-ncaa-twitter-jerseys-search_n_3715373.html
Here is a good read about how rotten these people really are http://deadspin.com/the-long-con-how-the-manziels-conquered-america-1040593220
I really enjoyed the deadspin article on the family. Very enlightening. Guess money can't buy good parenting or character.
straight up Hustlers, we all love the songs about them. But yeah, i showed up at the end of a 110 degrees humid heat index Saints practice the other day sweating my ass off just sitting there in no shade with a thin microfiber shirt and shorts on, and Brees stayed (after working for a few hours without getting to take off his pads) signing free autographs for at least 300 fans, it took him almost an hour. And even before i saw that, had i heard Brees was hanging out with dealers in hotel rooms pawning his signature for $$$, i would have lost a good chunk of respect for him
can't escape genetics, although it sounds like that one twin was able to at some level. thanks for posting that article. interesting read. lots of research there.
