Yeah, or monumentally stupid. Or both.

It's kinda funny the position this puts UND -- as we all know, a very selective Catholic university -- administration in. They either have to say that he was complicit in the whole scandal, probably because he's gay and wanted to create a "beard", thereby admitting one of their highest profile students is gay. Or they have to say that he was the "victim", probably because he's monumentally stupid, thereby admitting one of their highest profile students is a friggn' idiot.

Based on the AD's news conference and statements coming from the university and Te'o's family, it looks like they're taking the stupid road.

 

I understand some pathological liars can pass a lie detector test standing on their head. They don't give you one reason why something is true, when it's not, they give 4, 5, 6, etc. Each one stupider then the other. Nary a flinch of a facial muscle, nor the blink of an eye. Manti is staring at a camera, telling the same story of lost love and going through the same emotional gyrations, AFTER, he finds out about the hoax and reports it on December 26th.

 

Truly a fabulous disaster
