Polo Grounds right field wall was almost 60 feet closer than Fenway's.
    That'll boost anyone's HR totals.
Then Yankee Stadium was designed with Ruth's swing in mind.

Papi had a quick spike, held for a few years, then suddenly has no pop at only 33 years old? Sorry, but there is nothing Natural sounding about that one.

thats misleading. the polo grounds right-center was 449! fenway's 380. both (and especially the polo grounds) have sharp curves near the line.

i actually think the stadium change makes it more of a spike for ruth.

does nicely coincide with manram's departure. bunch of injuries too. and 33 is getting old for players that dont juice.

Fenway has shrunk since Ruth's time.
Deepest part of Fenway between when he played = 550'
Deepest part of Polo Grounds in Ruth's time = 483' (got bigger for a while after he left)
Deepest part Of Yankee Stadium back then = 500' (to left Center. right field stayed under 300 til after he retired)

I'm a Red Sox fan too. I'd love to believe Papi was clean, but I ain't gonna lie to myself about it.

31 games, 117 ab and counting without a homer.
this from a guy that averaged a homerun every 13.5 at bats in a Sox uni coming into the season.

don't think you can blame a lack of Manny for that one.
at least one pitcher in those at bats had to have left something hangin over the plate. Probably more than one.

He can't make pitchers pay for their mistakes anymore.
Even if he catches up to the inside fastball, he's got doubles power at best now.

plenty of studies prove lineup protection is nothing more than a fallacy. also, who is more locked in than Youk. hes been as effective a hitter as Mannywas at this point of the season.

players' union gave manny's records to mlb. seems weird. you'd think your dues would count for more backup than that.

from what I'm reading, they didn't have a choice.
it's part of the agreement between MLB and the players association.

in some situations, those records may save a player's ass.
if Manny's original claim (forget the drug he first said he took, but it's legal in baseball), had not been completely fabricated, those medical records probably would have been good enough to prevent this suspension.
