An interesting quote. At least he can say he never denied taking them.

It doesn't surprise me at all.

Manny is still one of the best hitters of all-time.

    Yankees SUCK!

I turnde my back on MLB for a number of years after the strike.
watched Cal tie and break Gehrig's record, and followed the HR chase between Big mac and Sosa from a distance, but didn't really start watching again until the '01 postseason.

The game will actually come out stronger because of this.
Won't have a choice but to go back to real baseball with strategy that goes beyond "well somebody is gonna hit one out for us".

Just got to grin and bear it right now.
May get worse before it gets better. There are still 103 names on the list from '03 that haven't leaked yet. But theyy may, and there may be some names on that list that we don't want to hear.
Some names that baseball doesn't want to hear.

Manny coming up with a lame excuse.

Sad. Won't come clean. Disgraced for life now.

    Who is next?

    Pedroia, Longoria, Ethier, Kinsler?

I was not a major baseball fan but basically I followed the same path. I have just gotten to the point now where i basically can't stand the sport. I really wish it would die. This has become yet another professional sport that i wish would just fold. The NBA is the other sport.

I am perfectly happy with College and Pro football and (I know i will get hammered for this) Soccer. The rest can disappear.

you are probably right, but as a Sox fan i hold out hope because---
    1. as you said, he gained a Manny.
    2. he's big. this isnt like brady anderson or bret boone.
    3. he had no real track record before playing with Boston. i'd imagine if you look at many of the best hitters ever you could see a similar meteoric rise just because it can take a full season to adjust.

i just checked out babe ruth's stats.

with boston his 162 game avgs were 20 and 95

career-46 and 143 (subtract out the 6 seasons in boston and theyll be higher)

also, it would be more accurate not to do a 162 game avg but per AB because im pretty sure ortiz pinch hit a lot because he's a power hitting leftie on the bench. even then you should expect stat jump from becoming a regular game starter.

the reason i hate major league baseball is because when players first started taking this stuff, the league knew what was going on and did nothing, but reap the benefits of guys smashing 50 home runs a season. After the strike baseball was dead, and what revived it? Steroids. I say legalize them, and let the players do whatever they want to their own bodies. Having someone tell people what they can and cannot do to themselves is absurd, these guys are trying to make a living, and baseball is a competitive sport, one day you are relevant the next day you arent. and remember, its a performance ENHANCING drug. How can you make something that makes you perform better illegal? Also, if players use the drugs to rehab, i really see no problem with that. I was prescribed steroids from my doctor on 4 separate occasions last year. Just because they are athletes they should not be allowed the same medical treatment as those who arent? Absurd.
