http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/09/16/power.rankings/index.html Mandel has LSU at 5 ahead of florida, he doesnt really give a reason for this, I found it interesting though.
For 90% of a game we should be able to match Florida. However, they have multiple guys that can bail them out with an eighty yard TD. At this point we do not have that and we don't want to play from behind. Until we show more explosion on offense, UF>LSU
I would say Trindon has proven he can score from anywhere at anytime. Also I think our line has shown that they can open some big holes and if we catch a defense in the wrong alignment we can take it to the house.
Obviously every player we have can take it 80 yards, but Florida has 3-4 guys that are a legit threat to do it. They scored 28 points against Hawaii in about .3 seconds. Im not saying we wouldnt win, but I wouldnt want to play them until we have a more explosive offense.
I don't quite understand the love for Florida and their offense. Is it the Miami win? Are we expecting Miami to be back? They got beat by 40 points THREE TIMES last year, and the almighty Gators only scored 26. :rolleye33: Our offense is fine. I think most of the "problems" are in your heads. So we can't throw a bomb like Florida can...so what? Do they have a running back that's averaging 11 yards per carry? Do that have a defensive line with the kind of talent depth that guarantees the same quality play in the fourth quarter as the first? Do they have a FG kicker as automatic as Colt David? Most importantly, do they have :milesmic:? I think the answer is "no".
Also do not forget that Florida scored late on Miami, who kept their offense in check most of the time. Our passing game may not be great, but much better than Miami. Important point here is that Florida still does not have a good running game, period. That caught up with them last year as well. As for us not being able to throw a "bomb", I would say we cannot throw a Jamarcus bomb, but play action fake it is not that difficult to go over the top and connect with our extremely fast receivers. Timing has been off, but you only need to hit one or two and people will respect it. I am more confident every day because great defense, great blocking and running, solid special teams (if we punt well) and coaching will give you a chance to win EVERY TIME.
Really, all Florida has is players that can bail them out with long plays. We don't need to be bailed out by long plays because our offensive line will just dominate anyone in their way and Scott is gonna run the rest down. If we are down we still have D-Byrd, Keiland, Richard Murphy, etc. Trindon is only effective in the return game, he hasn't had much impact on offense.
He works really well as a decoy. Opposing defenses are forced to pay attention to him on the off-chance that he gets the ball, and that opens up other avenues. That kind of impact is immeasurable.
"Off chance"... my perception last year was that Trindon got the ball almost every time he was on the field for the offense. I haven't really been looking but has that changed this year?
He didn't always get the ball. There were LOTS of times when he'd line up in the slot and show end-around before Flynn would air it out the other direction. And he may not have been a game-breaker, but the plays that were designed for him earned him a respectable 6+ yard average. Miles being a field position guy, he'll take that every time.
