Just to make things clear, I would not trust handing the keys off to Malzahn if he were to decide who ran our defense. The stipulation would have to be that he keeps the entire defensive coaching staff in tact.
If you are going to just give a guy who has never been a head coach before in his life an opportunity to be a head coach, why not give the job to someone you have on your staff already, so those guys can keep the staff we currently have, and talk to the recruits immediately if Miles decided to go?
Just to make things clear, I would not trust handing the keys off to Malzahn in any capacity but offensive coordinator.
Nah, I just don't respect your opinion much as I disagree with just about everything you have ever said on this forum.
Like who? Chavis has said before that he has no desire to be a HC. I don't see anyone else on staff that should be considered for even a second.
I would be OK with Malzahn, though he would not be my first choice. It is interesting to me that you want him as HC, but you are not willing to trust him with the full responsibilities of a HC, which includes hiring staff - including defensive coaching staff. It sounds as though you want him as OC, rather than HC.
Interim head coach, and I would promote Ensminger, or Billy Gonzales, until I could find a replacement.
