i dont relish the thought of lsu being an on the job training site for someone with no hc experience. it might be lightening in a bottle. but it also has the high risk for failing miserably. ironically, we've been dogging florida for the same thing with muschamp.
Spot on, LSU doesn't need gimmicks or a Cam Newton, Tim Tebow type player to win. Just line up and cram it down their throats and win with TOP and defense. I didn't think it was just me. Don't get me wrong flashy is fun, and there are many worse options than Malzahn but he wouldn't be #1 on my list with the caliber of players at LSU.
That so called "flashy offense" rushes for about 250-300 yards per game. It's called, we're gonna run it on you and you won't know what direction it's coming from. Much better than "hey look at our formation, you can guess where we're trying to run the ball, but we're gonna force it anyway because we think we can win the battle in the trenches". I'll take the flashy "gimmicky" offense every day of the week. Again, 45 points per game or 32? It's rhetorical. So imagine instead of Hill OR Hilliard, it's Hill AND Hilliard. That's the essential differences in the two offenses.
I will gladly take it over whatever Pelini will bring in here any day. It is well worth the shot imo.
didnt auburn almost lead the sec in offense with chris todd behind center and ben tate behind him? does anyone outside of auburn remember chris todd? it was one year ago. id take malzahn just for my curiosity. i think hes a slam dunk but ive been wrong once before.
Just curious why you think he'd go the NFL? Not too many spread option teams playing on Sundays. I think he's pretty much a pure college coach.
The scheme is pretty much limited to the NCAA because there is just too much speed on defense for it to work in the NFL. Same reason you rarely see the option on Sunday. He "may" end up coaching on Sunday at some point but he won't be running a spread O.
