+1 My thoughts exactly......if you wanna break down another teams defense as to how to beat them....don't get blown off the field like you did this year.....last year's film with cam newton on the otherside of the ball is why you won there gus!!
We beat Gus by 35 and it wasn't even that close. We played 62 players in that game, an rememeber who we sat? Gonna be a long time before the barn becomes a player againt LSU.
Agreed. But we must test them long with the pass as well. Keep those defensive backs busy and worried about the bomb. We must try the middle for two reasons: 1. Some of our best plays do exactly that and you dance with who brung ya'. 2. Bama will adjust if we don't and will move out to cover the sidelines. Our tight ends are good, under-used, and can get open. And Nick's defenses have always been vulnerable to a blocking back slipping out of the backfield late for a pass over the middle. Les is best at this. Jefferson not only has the legs for this, but lately he has been making very good decisions about when to do it.
Yea, if they are wearing ankle weights and running in quicksand. There's no quick sand in the Super Dome is there?
Actually there is.....lsu's boys know where it's at ...bama's doesn't! Or at least that's what it will look ike 1-9-12!!
Gotta agree. They aren't slow but speed to the outside isn't their strength either. That's where they are weakest. My fear is that Miles will play this game like all the rest where LSU just tries to wear their defense down and win it in the last minutes. Bama isn't like all the rest. It worked the first game but barely. We have the skill weapons, we just need to unleash them. Tire Bama out running side to side all game and then bring in the heavy pounding to close the deal. Take some big shots downfield and we'll convert a few. If it's an interception then at least it was deep like a punt. We'll convert a few big passes and at the same time send a message to their safeties that they can't crowd the box. After a good lead, it forces Bama to do what they don't want to do which is to play from behind and put it on the arm of their QB. If he makes enough attempts, we will get our interceptions.
I agree with Red. We can't completely abandon running up the middle. But I do agree that it would be most effective if we tire them out buy running sideline to sideline first. Also, I hope LaSalle is right about Landry getting in there to block. He is a beast and let's not forget about his excellent hands. We can't afford to have the drops.
Completely irrelevant to the point of the thread. If you comprehend the video, you'll see Malzahn pointing out the read-keys and why they are important based on what bama's defense is showing. (and also what they are attempting to disguise) The fact that it is AU is irrelevant, and Cam has nothing to do with it since the footage is simply demonstrating scheme. Any of LSU's quarterbacks can emulate the same reads and the corresponding check-downs .... and that is the point. It isn't a function of athleticism, talent, or lack thereof ... it's a function of fundamentals and execution, both of which Miles is a stickler for achieving. Better to show footage from two teams that are closely matched (AU-bama 2010) since that is most similar to the situation with this year's bama-LSU matchup. IMO, LSU's special teams unit is the most substantial advantage you have. Play patient, be physical, avoid mistakes on O & D, let your ST unit do the talking, and LSU gets the crystal. Good luck .... :thumb:
LSU will run up the middle ... our OL and power blocking will be too much for Alabama ... Hilliard will smash them on dive plays to the tune of 5 yards a pop as long as we are not totally predictable with the inside game.
A great game plan mixing good play action passes with outside running and both quick slashing dive plays and delayed runs/draws etc will move the ball on Bama this time with JJ at QB. JJ has another half like he did against Georgia and we may be in trouble! It's that simple. Alabama won't score more than 10
