Beat out two returning starters and a highly-touted true freshman He's a junior, this is his first time playing as a Division I college quarterback. -2007-2010: holds the Georgia state high school record for career touchdown passes with 103. Had offers to Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt -2011: signed with Georgia as a DB. and played as CB (played in all 13 games) before he was dismissed for stealing money and valuables from teammates. Aaron Murray called him the greatest athlete he has ever seen -2012: He spent the 2012 season at a Kansas JUCO playing quarterback where he threw for 3,142 yards and rushed for nearly 1,100 more with 37 total touchdowns and 20 interceptions...got offers to Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Baylor, Auburn, Indiana, NC State, etc His JUCO coach said he compares to Michael Bishop (the dual-threat Kansas State QB that finished second in the 1998 Heisman Trophy voting to Ricky Williams) “Everybody out here compares him to Michael Bishop with his throwing ability and his running ability,” Tatum said. “Michael Bishop kind of helped Kansas State turn their program around and get into the national spotlight. He’s still a pretty famous guy out here, and that’s who everybody compares him to. Matter of fact, our offensive coordinator was on the staff of Kansas State at the same time that Michael Bishop was there.” Malzhan says: "He is a playmaker with a big upside" Marshall set his goals high for his time at Auburn, saying before signing day he wanted to "try to bring a national championship here, win the Heisman … and that's about it." Marshall's throwing ability became that of legend before fall camp even began. Former Georgia teammate Aaron Murray said Marshall "can throw a football farther than anyone I've ever seen in my life." Even Malzahn fueled the fire surrounding Marshall, telling an audience in Birmingham he could throw the ball 80 yards. Marshall's running ability has also been turning heads: "Him coming here and showing how athletic he is and how fast he is and his ability to extend the play and make things happen with his legs … it's something you just have to watch," tight end C.J. Uzomah said of Marshall. "He's a blazing guy. It's something kind of special."
Not to worry. In a few years his arms will look like graffiti on a bridge and the entire torso will be reflective of a litany of nonsensical gibberish. Who will notice?
Tide fans: Cammy 2.0 let's hope not. version 1.0 was virtually unstoppable. All arrogance aside, after what Cam did to us, I will not write this guy off until we put him on his butt several times in The Game. RTR sCam didn't sneak up on us. By that game he was a known quantity. From the presser earlier tonight, Marshall's first appearance in front of the media "He's very unique," Malzahn says of Marshall. "There's no doubt. He's a phenomenal athlete." Marshall: -Marshall doesn't want to compare himself to Cam Newton, even if others want to. -How about that Johnny Manziel comparison? "I don't too much worry about what he does. I worry about me and worry about my team." -He believes the offense is going to be good.
USAToday: Auburn's Nick Marshall aims for Cam Newton-like season ... The comparisons to Cam Newton are natural, and Marshall has his goals set at matching the success of the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner, who brought the first national championship in 53 years to the Plains. Marshall's confidence in his abilities is nothing new to Jeff Tatum, who coached him at Garden City last year. "A lot of people think that when young men say that they're going to win a Heisman or a national championship, they're just saying it because that's what they're supposed to say," Tatum said. "But in Nick's case he really believes that he's got a chance to lead Auburn to national championship and a chance to win the Heisman trophy." ...
ESPN: "There is a buzz around the Auburn program again. ... Fans are excited and anxious for the season to kick off." “It’s a new day,” said Malzahn. “The expectation at Auburn is to win championships.”
