I think he handled it great. Anyone think their replacement's deal is already done?

I do, too. Miles was obviously going to make changes, but he cares enough about these guys' families and their dignity to let them find other employment (and he probably really helped with that, too.)

I know that many on this board (and especially on TOS, which disgusts me) wanted these guys to receive the equivalent of a public flogging, but that's not the way a man like Miles operates. I, for one, am really happy that he respects those who work with him.

But what's to be gained by making it public? It's frustrating to watch as fans, but we aren't "entitled" to know what decisions are being made internally. He knows what's going on, and I think the longer the record he has of making sound decisions, the less fans will feel the need for him to be open. I think it's the lack of trust in his decision making that's frustrating fans.

Couldn't agree more. Just shows what a class act Miles is and is also what will attract other talented coaches to work for him.

i'm not going to get into the philosophy of openness or whether anyone is ever "entitled" to know anything at all period... because nobody will ever agree. but i will get into why it's a much better business decision.

this decision has really made us as a fanbase a lot more optimistic about our future. it may be too late at this point, but had we known for sure that miles was making a change then peach bowl ticket sales would have been higher.

it also effects recruiting. maybe not this year, but future generations of recruits had to hear for two months how inept miles was from the lsu fanbase because he wouldn't state he was definitely making a change. that on top of the whole season of hearing could hurt next year's class.

this continues into his perception by the media. they all are so incredibly frustrated by his lack of openness that they can't bring themselves to give him praise and jump at the opportunity to criticize. yet again, this can effect recruiting.

maybe you're right and nobody deserves to know anything but i can see absolutely no benefit to the program by holding that stuff in, but i can see three pretty big reasons why being open would help.

Early on, some information was released by some athletic department officials. Things did not turn out so well and information was questioned, decisions questioned, etc.

From that point on, Miles has kept everything to himself and information has been very scarce. I don't blame him.

perhaps in hindsight it was the repeated cajoling and wailing by a segment of the fans who demanded some immediate response from CLM that is suspect at best.

resonable fans know that one year removed from :crystal:, a great recruiting class, a great overall record, et al, deserves a more reasoned approach.

    maturity.......ain't it great? LSU!

i don't want to be a negatiger or anything but all i'll say in response is that what if you were wrong?

what if peveto and mallory weren't leaving? would you still just say "oh well they have a great class and the won a title last year?" i'd hope not.

a bad decision is a bad decision and you gain nothing by not calling it that. making a change is making a change and you gain nothing by not acknowledging it.

has nothing to do with "maturity."

You act like everybody thinks Miles is inept like you do. That's not the case.

As for recruiting, the way Les handled the situation with his fellow football coaches Mallory and Peveto will only increase his respect among football coaches at the high school level, which is great for recruiting.

Re: Mallory may be gone to New Mexico

Pure supposition. If sales are down it's because fans watched the team quit and lose 5 games. LSU has also been to Atlanta several times in the last 5 years and that has a direct effect on people spending $ on their family for a new years holiday. Maybe announcing a new dc would change ticket sales and maybe not. We will never know.

There is no maybe. We currently have the #1 class, and it happened in the midst of this "confusion". Obviously it didn't effect things at all.

That merely shows the ineptness of the LSU fanbase, not Miles.

This has nothing to do with the media/fans desire to criticize Miles. They have done it every step of the way.

How about doing more for your outgoing staff then anyone else? Think that might be a positive when searching for future coaches? The fact remains, that despite rampant speculation and criticism, Miles took care of his coaches so their future would not be damaged. Do you really think Miles sacrificed LSU's future and his own to do this? He just didn't take out an ad to satisfy a bunch of impatient fans. I too would have preferred to know but I have no idea(as a fan), what it takes to secure jobs for your coaches and conduct interviews for new coaches while bowl season is going on. Probably a bit more to it than we can imagine.

    I can live with it.
