Is there something wrong with Chow, as to why he hasn't ever been a HC despite all his success? That Stanford opening should have been a slam dunk for him.

Exactly. When a guy like Mallet is in the shotgun, it is to pass or to run draws with the RB. When a guy like Pat White is in the shotgun, they run the spread option which is a run-based offense for the QB.

Nothing wrong with Chow's football mentality. He's a great mind and an amazing mentor. He single handedly developed Carson into a great QB in just one season and gave him an offensive scheme to go with it. He also was the one who convinced ML to stay another year when Carson also stayed for his senior year.

Where he struggles is with group/team motivation and interpersonal communication. Any big time program needs a coach who can and will meet/greet alumni groups, encourage donations, recruit. That's not his forte nor his comfort zone. UH is a great setting for him for many of those reasons.

Stanford is a private school that stands at or near the top in "giving" including athletics. BTW, I think he was very close to that job anyway and so did he apparently. It's long been rumored that the riff between he and PC was because Norm believed the job was his and tried to talk Mark Sanchez out of his USC commitment to go to Palo Alto.

Why would Hawaii be perfect for him? Wouldn't he have to deal with those same issues?

I'm kind of surprised he never got the BYU HC either.

Mallet likes little boys...Lost in all this: Mallet leaving might be a good thing for Michigan. It'll clear up room at QB and increase the chance that the number one QB recruit in the country, Pryor, will go there instead of OSU.

Yes but to a much lesser and far different degree. Chow coached HS football over there and is very highly regarded. He's familiar with the lifestyle and the people and they with him. That's huge when you're talking about Islanders. They are typically very wary of outsiders especially haoles. He can move comfortably within alumni groups and will only have to compete on the recruiting trail for level B athletes.

Sounds like you got your buck-nuts in a twist and are upset that you could lose Pryor to your hated rival.

Mallet is a legend in Ann Arbor. He would be looking at 7 heisman trophies but Jimmy Clausen is probably going to split them with him.

Nah. I kid. Mallet is something special, and he will certainly make a great QB (college and nfl). And Pryor...chances are good well wee him in Scarlet and grey next year. If we dont, no buckeye fan will lose sleep over it. Henton is going to be something special.
