http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3232753 What a crock. He knew the damn rule. Suck it up like everyone else before him. Too many damn lawyers in the sport now.
I agree with him. Why waste a year of his prime because of something that is totally, completely out of his control? It's not like he is quitting because he doesn't like the coach. He just simply isn't/wasn't wanted.
This kid is in a bad spot. Imagine if you were in his position. He has been a lifelong Michigan fan and always wanted to play for UM. He gets his chance, but the new coach that they have hired doesn't want him anymore. So he has to give up his lifelong dream and go play for Arkansas. A very tough and bitter pill for him to swallow. Let him play.
Who said he was not wanted? I never saw an article from RR about not wanting him on a team. This could easily open the door for anyone to quit a team and transfer and play the next year. When the Weights coach leaves can a player move?
Clarify something for me please. Does he lose a year of eligibility for the transfer or does heh just have to sit for a year? If it is just a sit, can he practice with the team while he is benched?
he has never been redshirted, so he could burn his redshirt year and be back as a redshirt sophomore with his new team after sitting out a season. Once he sat out, yes, he could practice. But Rodriguez doesn't want him. His offense is a total 180 from what Mallet would be suited for. Rodriquez had two all-conference receivers and he basically told them to go pro, because they wouldn't be used in his system.
or he could have stay at UM and win a national championship playing in a system not meant for him. I mean it's not like Chris Leak had to do that or anything... Michigan is not forcing him to leave, Mallet is leaving willingly. He's no exception to that rule. Let him sit and wait his turn like every other transfer with the same story before him
that's the thing... he won't play. they will start a WR at QB over him. Michigan didn't point a gun to his head and tell him to leave, but RR told him bluntly they'd rather have his scholarship elsewhere. I just don't think it's okay for a player to just have to swallow the fact that they were lied to about their role with the program.
So to transfer, you actually lose a year playtime. Ok that is a bit harsh. i still think he needs to sit a year. That year should not necessarily be subtracted from his available playing years.
Regardless or not of whether he would play at UM (it has no bearing on the decision) he still needs to play by the rules and sit a year. I'm not really understanding what you are saying though, you say he was lied to about his role but RR is clearly telling him that he wouldn't play? Carr may have promised him PT, which he did get last year, but Carr isn't there anymore.
