I am convinced already we made a solid choice of our #1 draft pick. He stripped that ball on the kickoff return while being blocked. He made a tremendous tackle/hit on the punt return as well. The guy is going to be a playmaker at free safety and gets to learn from one of the best of all time in Darren Sharper.
He shows potential, but he's just playing special teams right now. Might want to hold judgment until he actually plays some defense.
Oh no doubt. But what I see on special teams will translate as a free safety in terms of getting those big hits and not being afraid to lay the wood. I love the fact he plays on special teams while we ramp him up. And again, he is doing his apprenticeship under Sharper. Couldn't ask for better.
Another amazing play on the special teams that helped turn the game around (or at least stop Buffalo's momentum) today, with a very athletic play in which he was juked out of his shoes by the punt returner, but he had the where with all to slap at the ball and stripped it loose, and recovered it himself.
"You know what he is? He's a football player, regardless of first round, second round, third round. He takes pride in doing whatever is asked of him. He plays like a man, he makes plays, and he's physical. He's just one of those guys who wants to be on the field. He's no prima donna." -- Saints special teams coordinator Greg McMahon on No. 1 draft pick, cornerback Malcolm Jenkins, who earned his second consecutive Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against Buffalo.
true. for some reason, i was thinking further back and kind of forgot about him i guess maybe i should have referred to their track record in drafting DBs.
