Texas' Mack Brown just got a raise from $3,000,000 to $5,000,000 per year, making him the highest paid in the NCAA. Question: Does Coach Les Miles deserve a similar hike because, after all, he really loves LSU.
I'm pretty sure Mack doesn't deserve it, either, since his clock management in the Big 12 CG rivaled only that of Les Miles' "strategy" in the OM game. He was one second away from throwing away his chance at the national title. As one of my Longhorn alum friends said Monday morning, "Thank goodness that pass was incomplete and out of bounds, or we would've lost."
Mack Brown since he started in 1998 has never had less than 9 wins, and he has only had less than 10 wins twice. Also is .500 against Oklahoma, and has dominated that series of late. I think he deserves a raise, i just don't know if his pay should have been doubled.
Will Muschamp(sp) can't be real happy. Mack's contract extended till 2016. Hell, everyone knows the world ends 12/21/2012.
5,000,000 is a pretty hefty price tag for any school to pick up. Still, Brown has done well with Texas, and if they think he's worth it, let them pay it. If he starts losing though, that salary will be a stinky carcass of an albatross around his neck
This could cause a ripple affect with some other coaches salaries. Considering some of them have clauses in their contracts to be one of the highest paid coaches in college football. I think Saban and Urban have these types of clauses.
Oh, I agree. When did coaches of the top programs start making as much, if not more than professional football coaches? 4-5 mill a yr is just sick. Then ya think about the assts that make 150 k to 450 k for these same programs, like that isn't a big discrepancy. Top that off with what these assts make is the same as some of the lessor programs head coaches.
Hmmm...I'm thinking when Jimmy Sexton somehow convinced LSU to pay Saban (then a pretty unproven commodity), what, a million dollars in 2000?
