Apparently there is quite the possibility that Roger Clements is in deep chit....could even be prison "for his lies to Congress"......

    NOTE TO NANCY POLOSI.....

If I were you, I would start my bitchy butt packing for other grounds.

AND TAKE YOUR "HARRY" FRIEND WITH YOU.....

My first reaction would be "WTF?! What a waste of money." However, without the penalties for lying under oath, the justice system would crumble. Because we don't have 24/7 surveillance on us, we need credible witnesses and the only way to make sure they aren't lying is for penalties for lying.

You know, this would never have happened had Congress not decided to stick its nose into professional sports. Why do they care? Let the MLB deal with it themselves.

Politicians especially those in Congress lie to the American people all the time. They should be the last ones to throw stones at a liar IMO. Could you imagine being sent to prison for lying to a bunch of liars?

It's called purjery. The criminal justice systems relies on witnesses telling the truth. Without that the system would collapse. Also, Clements was not hauled before Congress against his will. He volunteered. It is amazing he volunteered to testifiy and then lied under oath. If he knew he was going to lie, why volunteer? Dumb.

Close, it's called perjury. The rest of your post is spot on. And the Feds aren't picking on Clemens. They go after anyone who lies to them with a vengeance.

Close. Clemens didn't lie with a vengeance, it was more subtle than that.

seems like there is a good chance that they cant get him for perjury even if he did lie because the committee released the findings to mlb and not congress.

"According to a high-profile lawyer in Washington, the release of the Mitchell report at the behest of Commissioner Bud Selig and not Congress raises questions about why the committee was investigating the matter in the first place. And that, according to the lawyer, Reginald J. Brown, a former special assistant to President George W. Bush and an associate White House general counsel from 2003 to 2005, has given Clemens’s lawyers a strong argument to have the government’s perjury case dismissed.

“The case against Clemens is not a slam dunk for the government,” he said Friday in a telephone interview. He said that perjury charges could only be brought in connection with investigations conducted as part of those Congressional responsibilities outlined in the Constitution.

“Congress didn’t do this investigation to determine whether they needed new drug laws,” Brown said. “They didn’t do it to determine whether federal agencies were exercising their proper oversight. They did this to figure out whether Clemens or his trainer were telling the truth, and that is arguably not a legislative function. It’s not Congress’s job to hold perjury trials.” "

misplaced modifier. I couldn't get that sentence to work and was in a rush. How about, "the government will go after you with a vengeance if you lie to them."
