The article said he had nothing but good to say about LSU and it's fans, etc. so it seems that LSU and he came to an agreement to free up a scholarship. Maybe this signals that LSU may be confident of signing someone else.

It appears as though the question isn't going to be if LSU will end up #1 this year, but how far a spread will LSU have over whomever comes in at #2.

Incredible.

The USC record of 3018 points is in danger of getting smashed.

LSU with a legitimate shot at 8 five star players:

Randle
Shepard
Jackson
Campbell
Loston
Debose
Davenport
Ford (likely to get elevated to a 5 star)

And the chance Benton counts towards the 09 class and as a 5 star woiuld make 9 five stars, eclipsing the record by USC who had 8.

Not sure if this information has already been posted, but here are some quotes from an LSU media person. Don't want to get you all warm and fuzzy over speculation like the Orgeron-deal, but just thought this might be encouraging...(By the way, Happy New Year and Congrats on the big win 38-3)

Trent Richardson

The nation's No. 1 RB will go to Alabama the weekend of January 9, Florida the weekend of January 16, LSU the weekend of January 23, and then he also hopes to also fit a visit to FSU as well.

Richardson said he is still committed to Alabama, but will take his visits in order to help make the best decision.

Richardson also commented on the potential of going to LSU with Russell Shepard and Rueben Randle, and he had good things to say.

Craig Loston

Loston rarely, and I mean rarely does interviews, but he stopped and talked today after practice at the Under Armour All-American game. He will announce his decision between LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M Friday during the Burger King Skills challenge.

My update will go into more detail, but Loston talked about how close he and LSU QB commitment Russell Shepard are and how nice it would be to play with him.

I would be very surprised if Loston doesn't announce a commitment to LSU on Friday.

Andre Debose

Debose will announce his decision between six schools, but from all indications its a LSU-UF battle.

I've gone back and forth for the last few months, but I've gotten the sense this week that Debose might be leaning towards LSU.

The LSU coaches have done a great job selling to Debose that he can be their "Percy Harvin", and Debose and Russell Shepard have been attached at the hip. In fact, Debose was hanging out in Shepard's hotel room last night when I talked to Russell for his diary.

Debose was very impressive this morning at practice. He has a great burst off the line of scrimmage, and runs very smooth routes. He is easily one of the fastest players on either roster.

The HS season is over, if Ford was going to be moved up it would have happened already. The guy is still a stud as a 4-star.

Rivals said they didn't get to evaluate Ford in time for their last publication of the rankings. He was getting evaluated the week it came out.

Mike S' guess is that he will move up big time, the only question is whether it will be enough to get him into the top 30.

I think he will end up in the top 25. Michael may be the casualty, as he most certainly will fall unless he tears it up at the all star game.

Ford of course has to bring it at the game as well, which I am sure he will.

Rivals will come out with their final listing within a couple of weeks.

Shepard in Orlando...

I rode down with Barrett Henderson, the tight end heading to Texas, and another guy Stavion Lowe, who is committed to LSU. It was an interesting trip. We talked about a lot of stuff, but it was fun.

I made it down here and the first people that I see that I really wanted to see were Andre Debose, Ray Ray Armstrong, and (Dyron) Dye. We've been kicking it since then. We've spent a lot of time together and it's been fun and everything.

Another dude I wanted to speak to was Trent Richardson, and me and Trent sat down for a while and really talked kind of mid-day. We just talked a lot about just life in general. He's doing well.

The guy that I talked to that was really fun to talk to was Sam Montgomery. We're building a relationship, and we're getting really close. This is the first time that we're meeting each other even though we've talked over the phone. I was really impressed with him.

The three dudes that I really, really wanted to talk to, excuse me because I count the Sanford kids (Debose, Armstrong and Dye) as one, and then Trent Richardson and Sam Montgomery; I think we're getting all of them, plus more.
