Okay -- it seems the majority of threads post-AU are targeting our "offensive" offense. Included are will Mettenberger start right away (assuming he signs with us), poor blocking, horrible game plan, don't forget about Zach Lee, etc. I'm just trying to understand why after two horrible years, GC was allowed to return this year, notwithstanding rumors that the LSU higher-ups wouldn't allow Les to replace him because of the money. I don't recall if Studrawa was here last year (I believe so), and even though the O-line has improved some, it still could be better. And of course the QB debacle. I understand that nothing can be done about Zach Lee deciding to play baseball, what I can't understand is how the cupboard could be so bare regarding QB's. It's frustrating when you see Ole Miss able to pick up Snead a couple of years ago, and then Masoli this year, Arky gets Mallet, and of course, Auburn getting Newton. It's not like there are no QB's out there... I've stated it before and I'll say it again - Miles is not stupid (although yes, he is stubborn). That said, however, he has to realize that if the current situation on offense continues, he will be out of a job before long. It's hard to believe that we are in the third year of this. I just holpe we can get average QB play the rest of the year. :geauxtige
I made this response about recruiting and the offensive talent and production in a thread I posted that was relegated to the "sidelines." I though it was relevant to this thread and posted it below. "Just keep blindly defending Miles for no apparent reason. He's slowly allowing the program to descend into mediocrity. It's going to end up being an absolute mess if he is allowed to stay another few years. He needs to be replaced before the talent dries up and LSU stops getting top recruits due to the coaching being a laughing stock. If Miles stays too long that's what will happen. Then, LSU will be in Tennessee's position when looking for a coach. Dooley got the coaching job after it was offered to at least two others. He was at best the third pick and maybe even worse. You never want to be in that position when looking for a coach. I'm not saying that Dooley will be a bad coach. I'm just saying that you don't want to allow the program to be driven into the ground before you hire a new coach. Yes, a coach should be allowed to lose without his head being called for and fans should be patient with coaches. However, this time has clearly passed with Miles and Crowton. The SIGNS are all there. Fire him now before it's too late. I would hate for LSU to be like Tennessee is now in just a few short years. You may not realize it, but it can happen very easily. And, if you have your way and Miles stays until the mention of LSU football arouses stirs of laughter, as does Tennessee's, it will be truly sad. FACE IT!"
As long as Miles is getting 8-9 wins a year he ain't going nowhere, and he knows it. LSU just doesn't have anywhere near the money to pay his $15M buyout AND hire a top HC, I don't care what Jimmy Ott's "sources" say. And we would be stuck paying the whole bill because I don't see what team would want to pay him anywhere near what he makes now.
It is just so frustrating to know that we are a QB away from being a legitimate title contender. I'm afraid it will be more of the same next year. We have an amazing defense, great stable of RB's, and the run blocking has improved over last year. We are just missing the QB. JJ hasn't shown any improvement in being able to drop back and pass. He is effective in rolling out and a WR or just running. The option play is hit or miss and it usually is JJ keeping it. More quick timing routes should be thrown but both qbs hang on to the ball forever. I don't get it. The QB is all that is holding us back. IMO I think LSU could beat any team if we had an avg QB. I'm done ranting. I ready to watch the Rangers in the World Series
Yeah, this is exactly why I was calling for Lee to get more snaps BEFORE the Auburn game. Work out some of the stuff that can be corrected by getting more snaps.
I read the first post. Knowing the OP, I already knew what to expect. Over-blown reliance on "trends" ... made up stats ... general negative outlook .. false predictions. How can anyone even guess what our offense will look like next season, much less two years from now, when we're getting a new coordinator this offseason? That's like me starting a thread in 2008 about how the 2010 defense will definitely suck. Iststl = Miss Cleo.
