Thank goodness we have a coach who asks questions. Jefferson has not been put through the wringer yet and he may have some liabilities, too.
You may be right in that his best position is QB, but as we saw with Lee until he plays before 90,000 fans and makes split second reads we won't know. The fact that J.J is only a sophomore is helping to fuel this interest in where Shep will play. If J.J. were a senior or maybe a junior, we would certainly expect Shep to play QB and be groomed as our future QB. However, not everyone shares your view that Shep can take over the job from J.J. by next year. If Shep can't beat J.J. out, people don't want to waste Shep's talent for 3 years sitting on the bench waiting for J.J. to graduate.
Yes, he could. However, if the past is any indicator, Miles will not trust him to throw it much in the beginning and use him mainly on designed runs as he used Perriloux. Shep may have to gain the trust of Miles that he will protect the ball, i.e., throw it away or pull it down and run when no one is open before he can get a chance to use the majority of the passing playbook.
Yep, that is what I have been predicting since we received his commit. I figure that is the best way to get him ready.
Agree with both of you. I think that's the most likely scenario. But I don't think Shep will be as effective as he could be unless he's running the show. All insanely early. Just a hunch based on what I'm hearing.
Unfortunately, no. And we have the long, hot summer to endure before that greatest of all seasons, football season, once again emerges. The only consolation I have about that is, being a teacher, at least, I don't have to work all summer...
